GDP is a very general indicator of how rich your nation is in terms of economic activity and will be updated only sporadically. It will have no effect on the game save for limiting what revenues you can reasonably extract from your population. Otherwise, this is simply to facilitate the inflation/deflation your egos, allow you to kiss up to your betters and mock your lessers. Have Fun.
