January 1854 Malorossiiskii Armiya (350,000 men, 800 guns) is to march to Galati in Russian Moldova. It will garrison this Ottoman fort, which was captured by a Corps from the Army of Romania last year. Army of Romania (354,000 Men, 900 Guns) will remain in Bucharest until further orders are given. It will however, closely monitor the Ottoman position at Calarasi and take preventive measures should it start moving North. Army of the Ukraine (90,000 men, 200 guns) is to march to Chisinau, Russian Moldova, as a strategic reserve. When the Malorossiiskii Armiya and the Army of the Ukraine are settled in Moldova, the following orders should be carried out: - The Army of Romania will attack Ottoman Calarasi as the Malorossiiskii Armiya attacks Ottoman Tulcea. - The objective of this concerted attack is to force the Ottomans to split up their invasion armies, which are largely still on the Southern side of the Danube, to meet two very large forces closing in on their position. - Should losses be high, both armies are to retreat back across the Danube and re-establish defensive positions at Bucharest and Galati respectively. |
