With the war with the Russians now working towards the end of the first year, Grain prices, controlled heavily by the Grain imports from the Russian ports of Odessa in the Black Sea, have begun to rise in Western Europe, leading many producers of Grain products to begin looking towards other sources of Grain to offset the rising prices. The French Grain Market in North Africa has begun to see a boom, as well as the usual other source of Grain being naturally that of the United States of America. Overall Prices in many major cities such as Paris, London, Madrid and Rome have seen a rise of about 10-15% by the end of 1852. |

February, 1853 In Paris, the effects of the shortage of imported Grain has put a strain on the city, which with the war effort looming, has seen the raising of prices on the vital bread supplies by about 20% in the French Capital. In the provinces, the French Departamental Prefects however, has reported on the prices merely rising by about 5%, with it rising to 10% in some isolated regions such as in the Dauphiné. Prime Minister Décazes, seeing the potential danger of this issue, has decided to push for imports of Grain from North Africa, hoping to ease the immediate problem by using imports not just from regions such as the United States, but in France's colonies, of which Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia have in past centuries, been able to supply various Empires with their needed imports. |
