Campaña Del Bandido Final

As the Separación De la Caballería set out from Saltillo with the additional infantry milita, they followed a local boy who knew the location of the Bandido's hideout. As the arrived at a large hill, the boy pointed and said their hideout was on the other side of the hill. Díaz then orderd the infantry to split into 4 units of 250 men. Two would march around the two sides of the hill, a third going over the top, and the fourth staying in the rear. Meanwhile Díaz and his Cavalry rode far off to the west before turning north and finally after half a day of hard riding were facing directly towards the hideout on the other side of the hill.

Díaz's plan was riskly at best, and when it came time to execute the menouvars the untrained milita failed to do so properly.

The left unit attacked some 5 minutes before the other units moved in, and after taking multiple volleys from the Bandido's beat a hastey and unorginized retreat. Soon after the right unit attacked the banididos, but unlike the first attack they did not retreat under the fire of the bandidos.
Soon the 3rd and final infantry unit made it to the top of the hill, just in time to discover the bandido's moving a cannon towards the right unit. They screamed as they ran down the hill, and the shocked bandidos at first ran, but then quickly returned and aimed the cannons towards the decending milita. The cannon fired, and let loose grapeshot into the closely packed milita killing some 20 men instantly and wounding many more.

Finally Díaz's cavalry charged the front entrance of the Bandido's hide out, and flew into the backs of the men fighting the milita infantry. The Bandido's were slaughterd, and in the end only some 15 of them were left alive to be arrested.

But during the cavalry Charge, Captain Díaz fell from his horse and was trampled to death. He was burried in the Saltillo cemetary, and a monument was built on his grave. The campaign succeded in crushing the largest group of bandido's in Mexico.

Summer 1849

Governmental Reforms

The States of Nicuragaua, Costa Rica, and Panama were completely without legitimate governments, aswell Guatemala, San Salvador, and Honduras had yet to hold elections since their incorporation into Mexico. The Elections for the latter three states would be held in Autumn, along with the Presidential Elections. The first three states will continue under Military Governerships until early in 1850, when elections are scheuled to be held.

In Mexico City, and new political party has been formed. The Iguala Party's political Ideology is Conservative-Royalist. The parties leader, Pedro Celestino Negrete, was a staunch support of the Plan de Iguala, and now that Mexico has reincorporated all the former states of the Empire, he feel's it's only right to once ask Europe for a Monarch to lead the "Mexican Empire"

Though such an Idea is popular rather unpopular withen Mexico City, it's ideals have spread and taken hold in the surrounding countryside. As many people look towards the upcomming Presidential Elections with Dread, because due to Constitutional Laws, President Santa Anna is unable to serve another term as President.

Currently the party has absoulutely no political power, but it's favor amongst the normal citizens of Mexico is not to be ignored.

Autumn 1849

1849 Elections

Former President Santa Anna's second term as President ended in the Autumn of 1849. Though many Senators had asked him to run again, proposing to alter the constitution so that he may serve as president longer, Santa Anna was old, and very very tired.

So in Autumn of 1849, José de Urrea was voted into the Presidency virtually unopposed in the election. The only real opposition to him would have been the man he chose as his running mate, José María Yáñez. President Urrea and Vice President Yáñez would keep many ministers from Former President Santa Anna's ministry.

The States of Guatemala, San Salvador, and Honduras all voted in Conservative/Moderate Governments.

Winter 1850

Governmental Reforms

Baja California is officially entered into Mexico as the 31st State. Though many contemplated dividing the territory into two states, the final agreement left it whole. Arturo Montiel becomes the first Official Govenor of Baja California.

Statewide elections are put off for another 3 months in Nicaragua and Costa Rica while rebel attivity is surpressed. But the elections in Panama went forward, and Ricardo Adolfo Amador Guerrero becomes the first Governor of Panama since it's incorperation into Mexico. Govenor Guerrero sets out to raise a state milita, with which he plans to put down a small group of rebels opperating in the southernmost province of Panama. He has so far raised a group of 200 men, but hopes to raise a total of 5,000 men before he sets out to face the rebels.

The Govenor of Guatemala held a meeting with Field Marshall Zaragoza, in which he discussed the matters of the reconstruction effort aswell as the large number of volunteers for the state Police and Militia. The San Salvador State Police begins operations.

Spring 1850

Central American Affairs

A series of short campaigns against rebels in Nicaragua were carried out between March and mid April, and have successfully managed to pin the Nicaraguan rebels withen Kukalaya. The rebels surrenderd to Federal troops shortly after the siege began.

In Panama, many complaints have been lofted against the brutes the Chilean Bussiness men employ as bodyguards. There have been reported incidents of muggings and even rape by the Chilean employed bodyguards. As a result, the Deparment of Police in Panama City has been flooded with recruits, wishing to take actions to protect their loved ones. Governor Guerrero has yet to take a decisive stance on the matter, but he has sent a formal letter to Mexico City, informing the Federal Government of the situation.

The State of Nicaragua was able to hold it's first elections, electing Fernando Guzmán to act as Govenor of the State. Costa Rica has once again been forced to postpone elections due to rebel activity.

Summer 1850

Political Affairs

Over the past two years a number of Islands have been claimed in relation to the Guano Act. The Swan Islands, Navassa Island, and the Serranilla Bank have all been claimed by Mexican Naval Captains.

The Iguala Party continues to spread it's influence across Mexico Proper. Pedro Celestino Negrete has taken time from his work in order to tour Mexico and Guatemala, preaching his ideals to the locals. The Core of the Conservative Party have begun to agree with Negrete's setiments, but they don't see the return of the Empire as happening for a long time.

Statewide Elections were finally held withen Costa Rica, suprisingly electing António Pinto Soares, leader of the local chapter of the Iguala Party. Even more surprising, Former President Antonio López de Santa Anna has offically joined the Iguala Party. Though he still maintains he has retired from the Political Scene, he has been seen attending many Fiesta's thrown by the Iguala Party in Veracruz.

Summer 1850

Military Affairs

In Costa Rica, the rebel forces suffered a great loss when their leader José María Castro Madriz was ambushed and killed outside of Liberia. Without Madiz to lead them, the rebels soon dispersed and ended their operations. With the rebels put down in Costa Rica, the bulk of the XII Corps moved into Nicaragua to aid in the reconstruction of Managua and Rivas.

Summer 1850

Naval Affairs

The construction of Mexico's first steam powerd ship began in the last days of the Summer Season, 1850. While of no real military value, the commisioning of this ship marks Mexico's first step into naval steam technology. The ship, Nuevo Pacifico, will be primarily used to send supplies to Colón, Panama. 10 pounds and 1 IPP are spent.

Admiral Dosamantes has begun to push for the construction of a 2nd Rate Ship of the Line to act as his Flagship in the first fleet. Aswell he makes clear the urgency to aquire Explosive Shells so as to elevate Mexico's navy to be on par with the only other South American naval power, Chile.

Autumn 1850

General Affairs

The takeover of the Panama Co. by the American Philidielphia Co. has helped to remove the problems surrounding the Thugish guards employed by the former Chilean owners. As without their Chilean bussiness men to support them, the former bodyguards accussed of various crimes have been arrested, totalling some 200 plus men. The crimes range from petty theft to rape and even murder. The worst 50 men were executed just days after their arrest and sentancing, while the remaining 150 men were sent to the Petrel Penal Colony.

Autumn 1850

Political Affairs

The Iguala Party continues to spread across Mexico, and suprisingly has taken it's strongest hold in Central America. Govenor Soares of Costa Rica, was offically elected as both the First Govenor of the State of Costa Rica, Mexico. But he also became the First member of the Iguala Party elected into Office by the people.

The Conservative Party still doesnt quite know what do make of the situation. Though many members of the Conservative party would (avidly or not) support the return of a Monarch to Mexico, they are somewhat torn over wether or not the time is right.

The Hidalgo Nobility from Yucatán have expressed desire to reunite their state with the states of Campeche and Quintana Roo. Many of them seek out the Iguala Party in hopes of support.
