Spring 1838

France threatens invasion!

In the Spring of 1838 President Bustamante releases a statement to the Mexican people withen the National Newspaper.
Quote:

The French Government made a demand for a payment of 600,000 Pesos based on supposed "wrong doings" to French citizens withen our Nation. This after they have refused to send us the ships we payed for.

Though we have no qualms with the French People, their government has shown their wrong ways with their actions against our nation. They pretend to be our friends so that they may try to steal away our Nations Money, Your Money.

This demand of 600,000 Pesos would require the raising of New Taxes that would be a burden upon your shoulders. That is why we Refuse to comply with their Outrageous Demand, Aswell as Demand that they Return to the People of Mexico, The Money they stole from us.

I promise to you my people, We the Government of the United States of Mexico, will not Stand Idel as the French attempt to Steal from You, Our People. Our magnificent army shall defend our lands from the tyranny of the French Government.

Winter 1839

Feelings of Discontent Grow Withen The Populace

During his term in office, President Bustamante proved to be a weak leader.
Though he did accomplish such feats as the establishment of trade between the Dutch East Indies and Acapulco, aswell as Good relations with many nations in the Americas. He also made the Presidential position into a weak one. Caving into the demands of the Congress and Senate time and time again put the nations control in the hands of the Conservative minority.

With this in mind voters are expected to go to the polls and vote for their new president in the spring of this year.

Spring 1840

Economic Reforms

Vice President Valentín Farías set out to make sweeping reforms to the overtly corrupt Banking system in Mexico.

In the Spring Season of 1840, the new Government begins a series of Economical reforms starting with the ratification of an amemdemt to the constitution which gives the national government new financial powers, including the sole authority to print currency and enact tariffs. The states respond to this encroachment on their traditional privileges by chartering banks, which results in competition between state banks and the national bank.

Former President Dies in Duel!

Former President Anastasio Bustamante is killed by Luis de Santa Anna, one of Santa Anna's sons. The duel was fought because Anastasio's wife had an affair with the young Luis de Santa Anna. Though his death is traggic, it was also legal, and no legal actions will be taken against Luis de Santa Anna. But the death of the former President has made many question wether or not dueling should be allowed to persist legally withen the Mexican Nation. As of now no course will be taken to outlaw duels, but such things are being strongly considerd.
