Summer 1830

Political Unrest

It has been 5 years since President Guadalupe Victoria took office. Withen those 5 years Mexico has much in the way of reform and progression. But with this progression came Military hardship. The war with the United Pronvices of Central America is seen by many in the senate as a waste of time. The installment of 16 Spanish-Mexican seats to the senate has done more to hurt Presidente Victoria. While there are no protests or riots, many voice concern on wether he still has the capability to lead Mexico. The autum of 1830 will see the countries first election since Presidente Victoria took office.

In the meantime, Presidente Victoria has begun recalling the troops from withen the UPCA. Once the forces arrive, they will remain at the Mexican-UPCA boarder untill further notice.

Autumn 1830

1830 Elections

Though Anastasio Bustamante won the Presidential Election of 1830, many believed that he had only done so by bribing the vote counters. Anastasio was Spanish-Mexican, and so he rightfully suspected that his victory would be suspect with the recent power gained by Spanish-Mexicans in the country. His entrance into the Presidential position came at a time of much turmoil for Mexico. With the tensions between Mexico and the United Provinces of Central America, aswell as the impending war with the United States of America, President Bustamante in for a centainly tough term as president. All in all President Bustamantewas quite confident though, towards the situation with the United States. With the battle tested troops coming home from the war in the south, and the seeming aid of the Spanish, the odds were most centainly in favor of a Mexican-Spanish victory over the US should war materialize.

Autumn 1831

Attempted Coup by the Liberal Party

In Autumn of 1831 a group of young military officers, led by Vicente Guerrero, stormed the National Palace. However unknown to Vincente and his fellow conspirators, President Bustamante was currently touring the Military training grounds in the Southern states. None the less, Vincente Guerrero proclaimed himself President of Mexico.

Withen a week of Guerrero's attempted coup, Bustamante returned to Mexico City accompanied with the 4th Federal Division and Major General Ramon Faría-Garcia. Vincente Guerrero fled from the Palace, without warning his officers of the apporaching army. The officers that had helped Guerrero were immediatly arrested, and executed.

As Guerrero made his way north, he sent foward a messenger to General Santa Anna. He hoped that the apparently Liberal General would help him fight President Bustamante. Instead upon Guerrero's arrival to Santa Annas camp, he was arrested, and shot. It is rumord that Santa Anna himself shot Guerrero, but the offical report claims it to have been an over-eager private.

Winter 1835

1835 Elections

During the Semi Peaceful years of President Bustamante's First term in Oficce, the country saw the country shift towards the conservative party. This is largely attributed to the attempted Coup by the then leader of the Liberal Party.

In the Elections of 1835, the liberal party lost many seats in the Senate, though they were not filled be conservatives, but moderates. The ammendments made by President Bustamante and his congress also removed any permamnent seats withen either the Congress or the Senate. And with this the Spanish-Mexican's lost 7 of their 16 seats in the Senate.

A number of Spanish-Mexicans were upset with this, but they understand the removal of permanent seats is necessary to strengthen the Nation of Mexico.

Spring 1835

Preperations for War

With the recent creation of the Republic of Panama, Mexico has found itself ensuring their independance as a nation. This stance has brought Mexico into a conflict of interests with the United Provinces of Central America.

At this point war seems almost certain, and so the 2nd Federal Corps has been sent orders that they are too stock supplies for a campaign into the Central American Provinces.

Should no war come of this, they are to remain along the boarder patroling for any sign of hostility.

The shocking defeat of the Panamanian Militia shows President Bustamante that they are indeed incapable of defending themselves at this point in time. With this the governments of Mexico and the UPCA signed a treaty stating Mexico will be able to move troops to Panama, aswell both the UPCA and Mexico will garrison Panama until they have a true army to defend themselves.

The 2nd Federal Corps begins Marching south to Panama. They plan to help train the Panamanian Army once the country is secure.
