Metternich has sent letters to the following powers, asking if they would accept becoming part of a customs union with a united export tarrif and a low or non-existent tarrif between nations. He stresses the need for the unity of southern Germany under the new industry in the British Empire and to a lesser extent, the French. Metternich also stresses the recent international crises as a motive for new prosperity and alliance - by createing a better trade flow and reduce internal competition, as well as the standardisation of measures.

William I of Württemberg, seeing a shortfall in his economy due to the sudden strengthening of tariffs between the Kingdom of Württemberg and the Kingdom of Bavaria, has decided to bow into realities and has joined the Austrian Customs Union.

To his grace Leopold the Grand Duke of Baden,

His Imperial Majesty Franz Karl of Austria has instructed me, a humble prince, to write to your grace with regards to the new, powerful and ever-growing customs union, in which Austria lies as the beating heart; I ask on behalf of the Austrian Empire, as well as other signatories, that you consider joining this customs union: it can be of no benefit to your grace to be isolated in trade from your neighbours and friends either economically or politically. Those who border you as well as I and my nation do urge your grace to heed the evidence that renewed growth in the economies of signatories starting in this year provides for the worthwhile joining of the organisation.

God speed your grace and his people,

Prince von Metternich.

Grand Duke Leopold, fearing what may come of sustained isolation admits to Metternichs advances. Leopold understands that even if Baden does not allign herself with Austria now, she will be forced to take a side in the future; with a mind to securing prosperity for his state, he readily accepts the offer to join the Austrian Customs Union, and will be a member come January 1834.

The Saxon Ernestine Duchies together have decided to follow the Albertine line of the Kingdom of Saxony in joining the Austrian Customs Union. With that, no more states remain economically Independent of either Austria or Prussia in Germany.
