Ray smiled at the woman's fiesty attitude, at least she was honest. He felt this would be an interesting trip. Women with spunk were always more interesting in his expierience. "I'm Ray," he said offering his hand in greeting, "and don't worry, I always try to be the perfect gentleman." It was true, he always went out of his way to avoid harming a woman. Whatever his other faults, he was always as courteous as he could be whenever women were involved. |

Still wary of the man, she did not take the outstretched hand. Kei smiled weakly. "My name is Kei," She responded with what he should call her. Figuring he was probably still thirsty, she did her thing and to the left of her a small pool of clear water formed. "We should get going soon. It is a long journey and the darkness will come quickly." Kei was actually afraid of the dark. It was one childhood fear she never did overcome. Sure a fire could be built, but it didn't always keep certain creatures away. It wasn't the natural wildlife that she had to fear. It was those who could travel through the desert and not die that one had to watch out for. Kei had seen them from afar once. Another time when her city had been attacked. The nocturnal creatures always wanted her to exploit. All of the guardians actually. Each one had their own special ability. She remembered Lexi and how the girl had fallen in battle. The poor girl never stood a chance and it was her pride that had gotten her killed. Kei would not follow that dreadful path. She had too much to give back to the world. Crouching to the pool, she scooped up a few handfuls of cool water to drink. She was still part human after all. |

Ray let his hand drop, he didn't argue the fact that they should leave as soon as possible. This place wasn't exactly what he'd call a vacation spot. "I'm ready whenever you are." he said as she took a drink from the pool of water that appeared. |

Quenching her thirst, Kei stood and looked out to the North. Nothing but sand and scorching heat. She left the pool of water even though it was not part of the natural environment. It would evaporate in minutes besides. "I suppose we ought to head in that direction," she raised her arm and pointed North as she spoke, "That's where Marsotp is. We will be traveling for quite the while however, so be prepared. If you need water or food just let me know," Kei began walking forward, keeping the man either in sight or in her peripheral vision. He said he was a gentleman, but it usually were the ones who stated that who were the worst of men. Even if he made it to Marstop, she would be able to leave easily. Kei could have made more conversation with the man, but she was just observing him for the time being. |

Ray followed Kei, noticing how she always tried to keep him in her sight. He didn't mind. There were a lot of people who didn't trust him, maybe it was the scars on his right cheek and left eye. Things like that had a tendency to make the more delicate uneasy. Ray wasn't complaining though, at least she had agreed to take him to civilization. What she did after that was none of his concern. |

Ray and Kei had been traveling for some time in silence and the sun was begining to set in the distance. The temprature began to drop rapidly as the pair trekked across the desert. Walking up beside Kei, Ray broke the uneasy silence that had formed between them. "It's getting dark, maybe we should stop and set up camp for the night. Unless you'd prefer to keep going?" Ray didn't think it wise to continue in the dark and cold, but his traveling companion seemed to know more about this desert than he did. |

Kei shivered and nodded as the man spoke. With the setting sun came a more intense wave of inhabitants. Standing still, Kei closed her eyes and again the desert gave birth to vegetation. A ring of palms encircled them. The trees were tight and any small space was filled with thick monkey bushes. Bananas grew on a few trees and coconuts on the other. To their left a small pool of crystal clear water developed. A small palm tree began to grow in the center but halted its enlargement and Kei approached it. Putting her hand to the trunk, she whispered apologies and it began to wither and dry out. Kei turned to the man and looked down, putting her hands behind her back. "I am not so good with fire..." That was an understatement. She couldn't start a fire if lightning struck and made one for her. It was a skill she had tried to master many times but she only ended up with burns. Looking up a little she shrugged as she spoke. "There are bananas and coconuts if you are hungry." |

Ray had to admit that he was a little impressed at the woman's power. He wondered who, or what, she was. However, he supposed it was none of his buisness. "I don't suppose you could make some flint and stone appear," he said plucking a banana from a tree and peeling it, "I don't seem to have any on me." If she could then Ray would be happy to light the fire, if not he supposed the barrier of trees would deter most animals and possibly decrease the chill. |

Kei thought about the request for a moment. Those two objects were of Aronia and the ground. So technically she should be able to. Kneeling to the sand, she placed both palms flat and called to the beings mentally. She could feel their energy moving towards her like a magnet. A prickly sensation filled her hands as the sand beneath them shifted. With a small wave in the sand below, the small objects were revealed to her palms. Closing her fingers around them Kei looked up to Ray and smiled. "I think I found what you need." Kei turned her hands upward and revealed the flint and stone to the man. She was catching a chill and desired some warmth herself. At least she was half helpful to the process of creating a flame. |

Ray returned the smile and took the flint and stone from Kei's upturned hands. "Thanks." he said, imediately getting to work on starting a fire. He held the two near the dried wood and began striking the flint against the stone so that little sparks flew. Finally, one of the sparks caught on the wood and a tiny flame began to grow. Ray blew gently on the flame to encourage it to grow. The flame spread to the rest of the wood with Ray's aid and soon there was a comfortable blaze going. Ray sat as close to the fire as he could without getting burned and warmed him self aginst the rapidly dropping temperture. |
