The travel across the water had been long, and Jaraxle cared not for the sea at all. It had taken him half the trip just to get used to the rolling deck under his feet, and he had a hard time eating anything. Now, within sight, was their destination. A good sized beach with a few wooden structures acting as houses, with several groupings of tents and lean-tos. "Wells, this be where you land. I's got two of me crew lowerin' the dingy to the waves. Can't says we'll be missin' y'a dark elf...but you paid us right." the Captain says from behind Jaraxle. He's an old man, a human with lines criss cossing his leathery tanned face, which made his bleached white beard seem out of place. With out a word, the drow turns and walks the length of the deck to where the crewmen are beginning to descend the rope ladder. Once they had arranged themselves and manned the oars to the small water craft, Jaraxle climbs down into the boat and takes a seat at the center. The crewmen are obviously displeased with their detail, most the crew had little love for the dark elf they had brought aboard, but the pay was too good to turn away. After nearly a quarter of an hour, they beached the dingy and “assisted” Jaraxle with his gear. Standing just out of the reach of the waves, he lifts his pack onto his shoulder and begins to trudge up the beach towards the first house on the beach. It stood just off the sand, raised up by a half dozen wood pillars covered in barnacles. Stopping short of the stair case leading into the house, Jaraxle calls out “Hello? Is there anyone there?” |

A small head pops out from behind the stairs. The young boy's bright blue eyes shone up at the dark skinned elf, a look of curious excitement evident on his grubby face. "Hullo, sir!" he said, smiling bashfully. "PAAAAPAAAAA!" "Whut is it ye want now, boy?!" A middle-aged man, lean and scraggly, stepped out of the open door at the top of the stairs. In his dirty hands was a fishing net he'd been trying to repair when his son had interrupted him. A slight frown on his moustached face, he averted his attention from his son, to the dark elf near his house. "Ahh... Hullo there, sir..." he murmured, his thick brows knotting atop his forhead. "Toby, get in the house, ye little mutt. And don't forgot to wash yer face!" he growled, his eyes still on the dark elf. As soon as the child had scampered off to the back of the shack, the man relaxed ever so slightly. "The name's Bart. I'd invite ye in, but the missus gave me e'splicit orders not to let company in. She's got a thing about havin' the house clean fer people, ye know?" he chuckled, his fingers working on the net as he talked. "So, how can I help ye, sir?" |

“Well Bart. I am new to these lands, and I do not know my way to Ombra di Notta. You will guide me to the city. For this I will compensate you well enough.” Jaraxle says matter of factly, lowering his mithril shield from his arm and resting it against his hip. A coy grin crawls across his ebony lips, making his appearance even more sinister. “You will need someone to assist you with my equipment, maybe the boy? That is if he is strong enough.” With out waiting for acceptance of his demands, the dark elf drops his pack to the sand once again. To emphasize his point, Jaraxle adjusts the remarkable long sword on his hip. ~Oh my love but let me taste of their souls. It has been a long voyage and I hunger.~ A woman’s voice whispers inside the drow’s mind, a seductive tone hanging over each word. ~You’ll have to wait, I need their help reaching our destination.~ Jaraxle utters, using his mind to reach out to the one being that could hold any true power over him. He could feel the flood of her will, trying to force him to act upon her wishes. The internal struggle of wills building to a crescendo. ~This is too important, before long we will have returned to our home plane and you can feed as you wish.~ ~Oh, but you are no fun. Fine.~ Her will slipping, Jaraxle relaxes. Looking to the fisherman the dark elf remarks, “Do hurry with my things, we should be going.” |

"Aye..." Bart murmured, nodding his head as if to agree. "Ahh..." He chuckled as he heard the dark elf was on his way to Ombra di Notta. "She ain't too far - what?" The fisherman knotted his brows, much like he would have the twine in his net to fix a hole. "I'm sorry, sir, I must've misheard ya..." No. He hadn't misheard him. And now he was wanting his son, Toby, to carry some of his stuff, too?! The hell he would! Glowering from atop the stairs, Bart tossed down his net. He hobbled down the rickety stairway and, more out of curiosity as to how much they weighed, picked up the shield. Well, it didn't weigh too much... Toby might be able to carry it the couple mile trek to the city. Bart glanced at the way the dark elf adjusted his sword and scowled. "Me boy's strong enough! That's fer sure! TOBY! Get yer scrawny lil arse out here, boy!" Toby, who'd obviously been lurking just behind the shack, came scrambling forward at his father's call, his eyes gleaming with excitement. Without even asking what to do, he snatched the shield from his father, faltering and nearly falling before his dad steadied him. As soon as Bart had the pack secured on his back, he sent Toby ahead so that they could keep the boy's pace on the trek. It wasn't too far, but he'd rather not leave the poor rascal in the dust. "We're goin! We're goin! Gwen almighty..." he murmurs, trudging up the beach towards the path that would lead them through the forest and directly up to the front gates of the magnificent city. "So, what're ye doin' here lookin' fer Ombra di Notta?" he asked, glancing back some. "Got the word that the Queen's returned?" He grinned - not a pretty sight. "She's been back only but a few days. Damn but you Drow are quick beings. Just last year I had some problems with some men who kept threatenin' me n' wifey n' Toby. Brought a complaint to the city guard and Lady Sabre was here within the hour to assure us that we wouldn't be messed with again." He chuckled quietly at the small reverie, remembering the look of awe on Toby's face as the dark elf had ridden up to their small shack, exuding all of the elegance and formality of the city, and yet speaking as if they were equals. "It's why I made me home here. They care about their citizens, ye see." |
