Misery worked on her clothing for a few hours then sighed and finished another shirt. She decided she would to the rest later. She needed to make sure the alterations would work. She tried them on over her clothes and was satisfied that they didnt need to be adjusted any more and followed suit with the rest of them with new determination. She broke the string on her last shirt, then held it up in front of herself and smiled, "There! All done!" She stood and stretched, then cleaned up and put her clothes away in categories in the different sacks. She looked at the creme on the desk and knocked it off into the trashcan, then headed out into the living room. She came up behind the couch and leaned on it while looking over Asher's shoulder. "Those books challenging enough for you?" Misery said with a smile. "I will be cooking dinner soon, so you might want to find a stopping point in a little while." She put a hand on his shoulder, then moved off to the kitchen and began to drag out everything she would need. "Oh, is it okay if i use the tub after diner?" She called from the kitchen. Deadra |

He sat in silence for a long while after that. Could inanimate matter really be coerced into behaving like living matter like that? It it used DNA computing, it wasn't a terrible stretch to imagine that an artificial system could be made to act just like a normal cell, the probelm was that so far no scientist has been able to make a DNA computation machine work - it simply didn't have the necessary spark that had existed in humans for millenia. When one thought about it, the spark of life in every human was passed down, like one Olympic runner lighting the torch after the one before - it never went out, just was passed on to the next generation. But if what he thought was correct, then this man had been able to create something with all the working parts of a cell - including several improvements - and then instill that exact spark of life that had eluded humanity so long... they had tons of nanosprings, nanocomputers, and other things like that, even disposable nanomachines that cleaned some of their wastewater, but these had to themselves be cleaned out of the wastewater after a few months - they just died, and that was all there was to it. But these were so much more sophisticated... they could perform a variety of tasks, communicated and interacted with one another, and on top of that were self-replicating... it was incredible... When she came over, he looked up and smiled a bit. "Yeah, sure are... the math is nuts, but believe it or not, I like that. And apart from that, this all... I actually think it's all about you, Misery." He closed the book as she walked into the kitchen, and he walked in after her, holding the book open to a page as he put it down on the counter for her to see. "I mean, look - if I didn't know better, I'd say this was a normal human cell, but if you look closely, there are all kinds of additions, streamlinings, and if this data is accurate, it's several times more efficient, and I think it even self replicates the same, if I can figure out how..." He frowned at it a moment, then he shook his head as if to clear it, and looked back up at her with a smile "It means - I think - that you're even closer to human than we thought, you're literally almost exactly the same, except your cells were made rather than grown, at least to start. You were probably even a baby once, if not for as long as is normal... I mean I have to keep reading, there's like twenty more books, but... that really could be the only difference. I mean besides the wings, but I like them, really." He laughed a little bit and looked back up to her. |

"Huh? About me?" She looked up at him as he approached, then down at the book when it was set in front of her. She read over everything on those particular pages as Asher spoke. "I suppose so. If that means I am not a robot the great." She said. "Could be a type of living machine too. Flesh that can be programmed, so to speak." She stared at the book for a little while longer, then looked up at him, "Do you have a microscope? And maybe a slide? There is one way to find out if my cells look like that." As she said that, she began to chop some vegetables and ad them into a fying pan. "If not, I suppose I could make one really quick. Wouldnt take too long." She couldnt help but glance at the pages again. Maybe Asher would end up finding the truth about her. She wanted to know the truth and wanted to know what she was, but she was almost afraid to know the answer. Deadra |

"That's the general idea, though. I just mean that the flesh was originally artificially generated. After that, though, it should reproduce all on its own, so there really is no appreciable difference, you know?" He laughed a little bit and nodded. "Sure I do, I have a lot of other equipment too, but... I don't want to poke too far into this unless you want me to, you know? But if you really want to I can get all kinds of equipment. I don't want to treat you like an expiriment is all, you know?" He shrugged a little as he closed the book and set it aside, then he washed his hands, and looked around a little bit. "Think there's anything I can help you with without messing up?" He laughed just a little bit, and walked back over to her |

"I dont like the idea of being a lab rat, but I will agree to various tests." Misery said. She then pointed to a sack of potatoes and handed him a knife. "Peel about four potatoes. I dont think you can mess that up." She continued with her own cooking and instructed Asher to boil and then mash the potatoes he peeled. She threw in a little seasoning here and there and dinner was ready. She piled the food on some plates, then sat at the table. "So thats our goal for this evening. You can examine some of my cells while I take a bath. I cant garuntee you will find anything too interesting." She finished her meal quickly, eager to know more. She took her time with the clean up and dishes though. Once that was done, she turned to Asher. "Alright, so where is you equipment?" Deadra |

"Alright. Well, we'll see what we can find out." He laughed a little bit, then went back to work on the potatoes, if he could help at least somehow, he wanted to... felt awfully useless sitting around and not helping out with the cooking. He was still thinking about the cells in the book too... the next one would be all about tissue systems too, he figured... and slowly they might piece together how something - someONE - like Misery could even exist. He smiled a little bit, and then when they sat down to eat, he was kind of quiet, still thinking about everything. Once it was all cleaned up, he nodded a little bit, and walked over to a cabinet, pulling several things out, including one very high powered microscope of his. "Okay, come over here a moment..." He opened another drawer and took out a scalpel, then he looked over at her, eyes a little concerned. "Now... you want to do it or shall I?" |

Misery looked at the high powered microscope and blinked, "Trying to see how the atoms work too?" She teased. She took the scalpel from him and took off her glove. "My blood would probably be the most interesting." She brought the scalpel to her finger and cut into it, wincing slightly and let her blood fall. The wound quickly sealed itself, not allowing more than a few drops to escape her body. "All for the name of science." She said with a smile. "Alright then, get to work. Maybe there will be a surprise for me when I finish." She lay the scalpel down and left the room and headed towards the bathroom with her new unders and her pajamas. She closed the door firmly behind her and locked it and ran her bath water. She began to take things out of her pockets and paused when she got to the small tube Asher had given her the day before. It was a tracker, she knew that and it might come in handy later, so she would keep it. She placed all of that into a pile by the sink, then stripped and sunk into the tub with a sigh. The hot water felt nice and Misery began to hum softly. She actually had no idea what song she was humming, but it made her feel warm and fuzzy inside. Maybe it was a song from her buries memories with Gerald. Deadra |

"Yeah, I think so." He smiled a little bit, and watched her carefully with the scalpel, then he took it back, having caught the few drops of blood on a slide. "There. Enjoy your bath, then" He smiled, then he sat down, marveling at how fast that wound had closed... was like she'd never even done it three seconds later. He watched her close the door, then he looked back to the microscope, cleaned the scalpel with a spray of something and sprayed the same on his hand, then he put a small cut on his finger as well, putting two drops of his red blood onto a slide next to hers - Blue, like he had thought. He put a bandage on his finger after that, and prepped both the slides, putting a small pigment and then a cover slip before putting his under the lens and looking for a moment. "Kay... I'm still human... now." He pulled his out after clicking a button a few times, then he put hers underneath, and his eyes widened. "Holy shit..." He looked to the book again, flipping through pages, then he looked back through the lens, clicking that button more as he moved the slide around. She was definitely not human, but not a machine... more like a superhuman... he couldn't wait to show her this. If the guys at the lab could see it... his grin faded a little at that. He'd never let them... she'd be a lab rat for the rest of her life... gods, he had to keep her from everyone now, didn't he? Poor girl... |

Misery emerged from the bath about half an hour later. She had a towel on her head and was drying her hair when she walked to where Asher was. "So? What did you find? Anything interesting?" She noticed the bandage on his finger, then looked at his shoulder, "How is your shoudler?" He must have cut his finger to compare her blood to his. She wasent sure what that would accomplish, but what is done is done. She leaned on the desk and finished drying her hair, then hung it around her neck. "It's like seeing a kid in a candy store...." She randomly said, half to herself. Deadra |

He looked back up, blushing just slightly at her in the towel, but he looked away for a moment and then he nodded. "My shoulder's okay, but thanks... Yeah, I did actually... It's stopped now but for a few minutes... holy hell they've started again. Here." He pulled what looked kind of like the screen to a laptop computer out after that, turned it on, and up came a picture of several almost doughnut shaped crimson cells, with some much larger white ones spaced throughout - human blood. It floated around a little, but for the most part didn't move. "That's my blood. Standard human. And this..." He clicked the screen on the side, and what came up was different - the cells didn't look much the same, but there were what had to be hundreds of different types instead of only a few, and they all moved about, even separated from her. "They stopped moving when you left, but now that you're back they started again - which means there's some kind of network, or a signal, something they detect from you, even at a range that to scale is... frankly an incredible distance. Not only that, but I took a tiny electrode and killed a few, the others dissembled it, and almost before I could even watch, some others of the same type divided so there were the same number again, I mean... they're different but definitely alive. I think there are so many different types because you dont need all of them for oxygen like I do, so they're for healing or any other function, that part I really havent figured out, but..." He looked up at her and couldn't help but grin. "It's pretty damn cool" |
