Forgotten: No one can escape. A great flash emerged above all of Aronia leaving each with short term memory loss. Years lost to the fog of amnesia. Can no one recall? That appears to be the case. Whom or what is responsible? Panic has stricken the globe. Will civilization collapse? What will emerge from the reset? Only time will tell. To each citizen of Aronia from the Global Gazette, we wish all luck.
Welcome to Aronia. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Misery paused when Asher approached and misled to him nodding, "Yes, I remember you from yesterday." No sooner did she finished her sentence when a picture was placed in her hands. "Hmm? Recognize?"

She looked down at the picture in her hands. She stared at it with a blank look on her face as though she were staring at a stranger, "Are you asking if I recognize this man in the photograph?" Misery asked, looking back up at him. "No. I am sorry. I do- OH!" The picture slipped from her hands and it crashed to the ground. The frame broke and the glass shattered. "Oh! I am sorry!" Misery said, quickly kneeling to pick up the pieces of glass.

"Ouch..." She said silently as a piece cut her in her haste. Only two drops of strange looking liquid hit the pavement before she brought to her mouth. "I guess I should be more careful with glass...." She picked up the frame then and the picture and noticed there was something else under neath it all, "Did this come out? I am really sorry! I didnt mean to drop you pi...cture....." She had turned the picture over to look at it and saw herself standing happily beside and old man who looked as though he couldnt walk very well.

Her eyes were wide and she had grown silent, she jerked her head up to Asher staring up at him with her own green eyes. "What is this? Who is this man? Why am I with him?!"

She stood quickly, backing away from Asher, "Just who are you?"

"It's okay, Misery..."

He knelt to help her pick up the pieces and when she cut herself, and he saw the blue blood...

"Gods... Misery, you have to get out of here, now..."

He shook his head a little bit, she was backing away from him now... how was he supposed to explain?

"He's... I think he was your father. I found where you used to live, I know why your wings can heal even though they're made of metal, I even think I know why your blood is blue... it's all a lot to take in, but I think that man you're with... no, I know that man is going to hurt you. I can explain, but I can't explain here... I'm just who I told you, I'm Asher, I'm a scientist. I found one of those birds, they're yours arent they? It's... I can't even begin to explain in so short a time... Please... you have got to trust me on this, I know you haven't known me long, but..."

He shook his head again, then he looked down to the picture in her hands, and back up to her.

"Trust me, please."

He held his hand out to her, pulling his glasses off so she could see his eyes.

"Somewhere you have to remember, he tried to make you forget so you wouldnt be sad, but you have to remember somewhere that I'm telling the truth..."

Misery was so confused. He had told her that he found her as a baby, but yet here she was standing with this old man looking the same as she did now. The man she was living with how had never done anything to hurt her and there was no way he could.

She couldnt just leave. Not without knowing the truth. "Your wrong." Misery said quietly, "He couldnt hurt me. There is no way. He has been kind to me since...since...."

Since when? Since she was a baby? That much apparently was not true, unless this photograph was doctored. Misery then frowned and looked back up at Asher, "This is a fake photograph isnt it? do you get joy trying to confuse and hurt people?" She said angrily.

Arm suddenly wrapped around Misery as hands took the photograph from her hands. The same man she was with the other day look right at Asher as he tore the photograph in half, then let it go as the wind picked up a little. "How dare you put false thoughts into my daughters head." He said finally, his voice as cold as ice. "She doesent deserve to be treated in such a way."

He put his hands on misery's shoulders then and turned her, taking her bag. "Come. Let us return home. I want to eat some of your delicious home made pancakes."

Misery tried to look back at Asher, but the man did not let her. He escorted her home, and then left her to prepare the pancakes as he went to his study.

Damn... he thought to himself. I might have to move sooner than I thought. Where did he get that picture? His dark face suddenly turned into a kind smile when Misery popped in to tell him breakfast was ready.

When he arrived in the kitchen, he spotted Misery looking in her birdcage. "The same one is missing again...." She turned to him with a smile, "I think he got smart and learned to open the cage door."

"Perhaps so. Come sit and eat now, you can worry about your bird later." The man said.

___

The little red bird fluttered about the city and gave a happy chirp when it spotted Asher. It landed on his shoulder and gave a coo. "This way," said a sudden voice out of no where. The bird hopped on his shoulder and chirped, then flew a little ways and landed on a pole to see if the man would follow, giving him another chirp.

"He hasn't yet maybe, but he will... Misery, I..."

How was he supposed to explain that he had seen what was going to happen? Or at least a part of it... he knew that bastard was going to hurt her, but... He felt the man coming before he got there, and his eyes narrowed slightly.

"It's not a fake. I found it in the apartment where you and he used to live. He died, though... I wonder what sort of poison this man here used on him..."

He fixed his eyes on the man as he ripped up the photograph, and his emerald eyes glowed dimly, though he slipped his glasses back on as they did... he didn't want her more scared of him than she already was...

"She's not your daughter, asshole... and one way or another I'm going to save her from you. She's not a tool for you to use..."

He narrowed his eyes as they left, and his hand that was in his coat finally relaxed around what he was holding. Now what was he supposed to do? He was telling the truth, but she trusted the man already, and there was nothing else he could do about it he'd have to keep trying, but if the man got to her... he must have been following her, if only he hadn't been there he might have been able to get through to the girl... he was about to try following when he saw the bird, and...

"You talk?"

He blinked a few times, then he ran after it as it tried to lead him.... maybe there was something to be done after all...

The bird flew on, then stopped to wait every so often until it flew into the window of a house, then peeked out and chirped at him. The bird flew into the kitchen after it entered the open window in Misery's room. It flew back in its bird cage as though nothing had ever happened.

Misery paused in her dish washing and looked back at it, "There you are. Were you in my room the whole time? Shame on you for making me worry." She then gave it a smile and turned back to her dishes. She paused though and gave a sigh. She couldnt get that photograph out of her mind, and Asher seemed to sincere about all of it.

Should she ask him about it? She looked towards his study for a moment and then rinsed, dryed, and put away the dishes.

She approached the study and gave a knock and she was told she could enter. "Um...."

The man turned in his chair to look at her, "What is it?"

Misery looked to the floor, "About today...."

The man suddenly turned back to his work, "Dont concern your self with men who spout non-sense. He speaks lies."

"But he sounded so sincere. The photograph looked real too...." Misery added.

"I SAID THAT IS ENOUGH!" The man shouted. "He is lying to you! There are a lot of people out there who want to hurt girls like you!"

Misery jumped when he shouted, as it startled her. "Y...yes sir. Sorry to bother you." She turned and closed the door to his study, then leaned against it. He had never yelled at her like that before.

...and one way or another I'm going to save her from you. She's not a tool for you to use...

Those words kept on replaying in her head over and over again. What did he mean by a tool? What would he have to save her from? Finally, she gave a deep sigh and moved off into her room. She was building a new toy and she wanted to get it finished.

Her desk was littered with many tools and most of them were handmade by her. Parts also littered the desk and the many drawers that were stacked on top of it seemed to hold an endless sea of them. When she entered her room she sat at that desk and gave a sigh, just looking at her current project. For some reason, she suddenly didnt feel like working on it any more.

She gathered a few random parts and quickly began to put them together. In just one and a half minutes, she had created a complex windup toy in which she set in motion as she lay her head on her desk and watched it walk along over the parts, until it finally hit the wall and fell over.

Something flashed in her mind and she blinked and sat up and inspected the toy closer. She had...seen this before....

Asher followed the bird all the way, then he watched it fly in the house, and a grin spread slowly across his lips. Okay. Now he knew where she lived... but how was he going to get her out of here? He was a scientist, not a special-ops soldier... he looked at the front door, and put his back against it, hearing her getting yelled at like that...

"Bastard..."

He whispered softly, then he put his hand ont he door and tested it. Nope... okay well he had come prepared for that, luckily enough. He pulled something that looked like a key in the lock, it beeped once and there was a click, so he pulled it back out again, and opened the door. He closed it behind him just as silently, and then he walked towards one of the sets of stairs, but he stopped at a pain in his head.

Wrong way... I go up here and he'll see... her room is over here...

Visions finally came in handy... he slipped up the other set of stairs, then he slid along the wall to where her door was, and he knocked twice, very softly, before he pushed it open and just poked his head inside, finger to his lips.

"Shh... bird led me here."

He indicated one of the little red birds she had apparently built, and looked at all the toys she had, amazed - she built all of them...? Impressive... he slippe din the rest of the way and closed the door, then he looked over to her, taking his glasses off and putting them in his pockets.

"Misery please... He may have taken care of you but that's only because he wants to use you, he is not a good man... look, that man in the picture, your real father, he left this. For me to find, I don't know how he knew... probably the same way I knew where I could find where you and he used to live..."

He pulled out the letter, and lay it on the desk for her to read, then he stepped back from her, trying to give her her space.

"Just don't yell... I won't hurt you I promise"

Misery turned her head towards the door when a knock sounded, "Come in." She said, thinking it was the man she lived with, which was supposedly her father.

However, she was shocked to see Asher standing there. The bird from before flew up from behind him and landed on his shoulder with a chirp. She stood half way when he started to approach, "How did you get in here?!" She exclaimed, but only in her normal voice.

She looked to the bird on his shoulder and sat slowly when Asher put the letter on her desk. She set the complex toy aside and picked the letter up, still looking at him. If the bird likes him so much, then he couldnt be a bad man. It didnt even ride around on her 'fathers' shoulder like that.

Her eyes then swiveled to the letter and she quickly read it. However, her eyes stopped dead on the name 'Freya' and refused to move beyond it. She tried to look away from it, but her eyes wouldnt listen! "Who..." She started to say, "What....whats this name?"

She couldnt even move her hands to pint at the name that captured her mind. Something was beginning to happen to her. Strange things were beginning to fade into the back of her mind.

Something fell on her desk, suddenly snapping her out of the trance she was in. She blinked rapidly and looked over at the object that had fallen, and then to Asher. "You could have written this yourself. I still cant believe he could hurt me. This doesn't make any sense. You can just show up out of the blue and say that man is my father, or some of the other things you said."

She looked away from him and stared down at her desk, "Please leave before he realizes you are here. You are the one that might get hurt by him and I dont want that."

Misery clutched the letter in her fist when he made no move to leave, "Please. Please leave....."

"Freya. I think that was your name before."

He let her read the rest of the letter, frowning just a little bit when she asked him to leave again. How could she...?

"Misery... Freya... whatever you want to be called, you know I ddin't make it up because somewhere in the back of your mind you know that name means something to you, a lot more than the name Misery. You're not miserable, at least you weren't always... I saw the smile on that picture. Do you smile like that with him? Because I saw you together and that was not the same smile... I heard him yell. You know this is wrong as much as I do, and... I don't know why but I trust the man that wrote that letter. You saw what he asked me. I intend to make good on it."

He shook his head a little bit and walked back to the door, which he put his hand on it before he looked back to you, and the bird fluttered back to his shoulder. Asher looked at it sadly a moment, then looked back to her.

"You think your real father would hurt someone just for coming to visit you...? I think you know exactly what sort of man he is, don't you...?"

Misery narrowed her eyes as they threatened to start to water up. He was a kind man, and had always been kind. he was just protective of her is all. She was his daughter...it was only natural for a father to protect his daughter, wasent it?

She still couldnt get a grasp on all this. Why did the name Freya sound so familiar...so natural to her? "Your wrong. He is just trying to protect me. He hasent hurt me yet in all the time we have been together, so why would he start? I upset him earlier, is all. That happens sometimes, as it does with all parents and their children." Misery said.

She closed her eyes and waited for the sounds that would tell her he had left. Misery then opened her eyes when she heard footsteps-not retreating, but approaching. She looked over to see Asher still standing there and stood quickly. "Its too late! He will see you!" She quickly grabbed him and shoved him into her rather...small...closet and shut the door casually, just in time to see her door open.

"Misery? I...I just came here to apologize. I didnt mean to yell at you like that. I am just a little strung out with work and all." he said, trying to sound concerned which he actually pulled off.

Misery gave a smile, "Its okay. I understand."

Her father looked down at her hand and noticed the paper in it and raised an eyebrow. "Whats that? Another drawing for a toy? You know, you should really sell these. You would make a lot of money." He walked over and pulled the paper from her hand before she could protest.

Oh no.... What am I going to do now? Misery thought nervously.

"Misery? Where did you get this?" he asked, his voice sounding strange.

Misery looked off to the side, "I...found it on the ground on the way to get groceries this morning. I thought it sounded interesting, so I kept it." Misery was a horrible lier.

When she glanced back to him, she was shocked to see the scary look on his face. "Your lying." he said dangerously, "Tell me the truth, Misery."

"I am telling the truth." Misery said in her own defense. She almost made the mistake of glancing towards her closet, but managed to stop herself.

Lahziel thought about striking the girl, but whirled and left the room instead. Before he left though, he told her not to leave the house for the rest of the day or at all for that matter, unless he was with her.

Misery let out a breath when he closed her door roughly and listened to his footsteps retreat down the hallway. She sat back in her chair, knowing Asher would come out of the closet on his own.

Misery was worried about that look Zahziel had given her. It frightened her a little, but she wasent going to admit that to Asher.

"He's trying to use you. Look, the old man from the picture, the one that wrote the letter, he only died three weeks ago, you have only been living here that long, he's just been messing with your mind, Freya."

He knew then that was what he would call her... she wasn't Misery. That was just what the man in black wanted her to be, the son of a bitch...

"My parents never yelled at me like that. My parents never killed my real parents. He's done both to you."

How could he make her understand? He knew that name had triggered something, he knew it had, but... how could he bring the rest of it out in her? he was startled when she shoved him in the closet, and his hand slipped into his coat again, just aching to put the man down that moment... but if he did, the girl would never trust him, even if the bastard deserved it a hundred times over, she had to understand that before he could do anything... all he could do was stand there helplessly and wait... Finally he opened the closet and stepped out.

"He's just trying to keep you away from me, he knows I know. Didn't you see how he looked at me in town before? If you leanr the truth, he loses you, and he loses whatever he has planned for you. You read the letter, there's something in you he wants. You have to trust me."
