Forgotten: No one can escape. A great flash emerged above all of Aronia leaving each with short term memory loss. Years lost to the fog of amnesia. Can no one recall? That appears to be the case. Whom or what is responsible? Panic has stricken the globe. Will civilization collapse? What will emerge from the reset? Only time will tell. To each citizen of Aronia from the Global Gazette, we wish all luck.
Welcome to Aronia. We hope you enjoy your visit.

"You and me both, but you've got to learn to control your temper. I've known them both for... well, a few centuries now, and I know how close they are. Just because you've become attached to the Queen does not give you permission to defend her in those types of situations. Let her win her own battles - she's a strong woman. They both are."

Sabre's words were soft, but firm as she made her way through the winding hallways of the castle. Norban listened to them and nodded mentally. She was a wise master - much more so than that fat lard he'd been forced to serve under. Norban was quite content to serve under the dark woman.

Sabre paused briefly, letting Alain's words sink in. She took in a deep breath. "Victoria hasn't changed really, except that she's been without her best friend - her soul sister, I guess - for a long time now. She's matured, if anything. Grown more defensive, I think, because she hasn't had the Queen around to protect her... not that she really needs Gwenefiere's protection, but I think it was more of a bond... I'm not exactly sure... To be quite honest, your whole situation baffles me. Once we're done with this infestation of the city, I intend to study your land... if I can find any information on it. Perhaps I'll be able to find some answers. For now, though, I'd suggest keeping your nose out of business between Victoria and Gwenefiere - she may seen naive sometimes, but the Priestess is far from innocent."

A small smirk played on her lips as she heard the familiar voice of Suchara after Alain. "You may weild her when you're with me, so long as you refrain from attacking me." They were nearing her first destination, so Sabre spoke up.

"First stop... Main entrance..." Sabre mumbled loud enough that Alain would be able to hear. Norban towering over her shoulder and Alain trailing along behind her, she strode into the main hall, chin up proudly. Beckoning all of the wereguards to her, she smiled as they obeyed. Here was where she would work her magic.

Her eyes scanned each wereguard as she spoke, subtly checking their shoulders and arms as she passed them. "The Queen and Priestess are both fine and the trouble with the avatar creature has been taken care of for now." No scars thus far. The wolf to her far right shifted slightly, setting off a mental alarm for Sabre. She kept her head's turning pace, however and her speaking voice the same. "Our orders are to keep our positions. The city is back to normal, so all extra guards may go back to the barracks, or they may relieve those who have been out for quite awhile."

Only one wolf had an X on his fur - the one who'd shifted. Norban's fur bristled. He knew that the wolf knew why Sabre was here. As soon as she left, he would go warn the others. Or perhaps he would go gather the others. Sabre was practically telling the dark wizard that the city was open and ready for the taking! Norban was ready to pounce the wolf when Sabre spoke up again.

"Oh, I almost forgot. You," she pointed at the X'ed guard, "come with me. I need someone to watch the Queen's room." The guard shifted again, as if he would protest, but that would throw off his disguise completely. A low, acknowledging growl was his response and he followed the dark woman obediently.

Once the group reached the corner, she pointed the guard into a small nook and removed Althea from her sheath. Without a word, Althea lashed out at the wolf's throat, drawing a large spurt of blood. Managing to avoid all of it, somehow, she motioned for Alain to keep up with her. They were off to the barracks. The word would have spread that the city guard could relax via the wolves' mental links. All of the imposters would most likely gather at the barracks to ready their attack for nightfall - in a few hours.

Thankfully, the barracks were close to the castle. Without knocking on the door as any other citizen would have had to do, Sabre pushed the door open, letting it slam against the back wall. Pulling a knife from her hip, she aimed it at the only human in the room, who was pouring over a large map with at least three dozen "wereguards" surrounding him. As the dagger hit home in the man's forehead, he slumped over the table, dead as a doorknob. The imposter guards growled menacingly. Sabre slammed the door shut again as soon as Norban and Alain were inside. She noticed a few guards pinned against a wall and assumed they were true protectors of Ombra di Notta. With a growl of her own, Sabre unsheathed Althea and Virote and charged for the wolves holding her comrades.

OOC: WooT! Fight time!
Wash: I think they really captured his essence.
Kaylee: He looks kinda mean.
Wash: That's sorta what I meant.
Simon: This must be what going mad feels like.
Kaylee: Everywhere I go, his eyes keep followin' me...

"Normally I don't have such an issue with my temper, it's just... something about that back there just seemed so very wrong... And... I'm sure in so many years Victoria has changed, that doesn't surprise me... its just a feeling I get that even after you factor that in... there's no way she'd ever treat Gwen like that. I guess it's not my place to say anything, but..."

He walked along beside her and the other man, looking down hallways as they went. His armor was scanning for anything out of the ordinary, but since the system was designed to sort out humans vs. nonhumans - and he was the only human he'd seen in the castle, except for a few servants - it didn't help him out terribly. When he had some time he would have to work on reprogramming the system.... would take a while, yes, but with sample readings he should be able at least to distinguish. For now, though, he was trying to use his mind to sweep, with limited sucess. He just wasn't that good at it. Most of the powers he had apart from his telekinesis were only now developing, the rest... didn't come to him as naturally, and right now it was making his head hurt. And that wasn't a good thing when they were patrolling for impostor guards... not a good thing at all. He stepped off their path for a moment and onto a balcony, peering out over the city. Wondrous... but still... he shook his head slightly and went back in, putting his visor down to speak.

"See the issue with studying my land is that both from Gwenefire's account and from all historical records on my world, Terra and Aronia have never been connected until I was sent here, which in all likelihood was a titanic cosmic mistake, a one in a million shot. The earth you know of may exist very close to Aronia, and travel may be simple, but... Terra seems much further away from here than that... I can provide you with anything youd like to study, but you'll have to settle for taking it orally - the suit's computers are designed to link with a main computer back on the base, and so they don't store much of that sort of information, to save space for combat data. Bottom line, though, studying Terra isn't going to be something you'll do in any book here...."

The whole thing really just reminded him of how alone he was here, as a species. After all, there was noone here from his planet, the humans here were all from another earth... an earth that had never realized the mistakes it was making, had wiped itself out... humans that had killed the planet that bore them since their creation. And there were certainly no humans that were like him in their minds... it was hard not to feel very, very alone... he nodded slightly to sabre, and continued on, checking as best he could with the sensors he had and his mind. When they came into the corridor, and he found himself walking between rows of potentially enemy guards... he inspected each carefully. It had been a werewolf that had attacked him and Gwen down in the catacombs... tough sons of bitches too, had held up to a blast from his rifle and kept coming. Slightly disconcerting in a world that had never seen a rifle like his...he spotted the red X as well, but when Sabre passed it and starting giving orders, he reachd back slowly, silently, pulling his rifle from his shoulder - but apparently the woman already had seen the X, and had taken the wolf out. Alain smiled slightly and kept on her heels, until they cae to the door, and Sabre again made the first strike. Alain already cradled his rifle in his arms, and he smiled slightly.

"Outnumbered twelve to one...? This really is starting to feel like home."

Run mode four, bilateral angle four point five. Charge psi-amp to one-fifty, all dampeners at full.

There was a faint hum from the armor as the power cell came online to military power, and Alain's visor slid over his face, the helmet locking and sealing, the blue glow there for an instant and then gone, leaving a seamless contour of ivory metal. As Sabre began her charge, Alain lowered his stance slightly, shouldered the weapon, and unleashed it against the wolves. Four split-second whines followed by wipcracks split the air inside the barracks, and two of the wolves were knocked back into groups of their companions, no blood spraying, but massive chunks had been vaporized from their flesh, and the smell of burning meat wafted into the air. Alain was running then, twisting his whole body to the side as one leapt at him, but much too slow for the armored soldier. The butt of the rifle caught the wolf on the side of his jaw, smashing it clean off to fly across the crowd of wolves, all trying to get into a position to attack. Alain brought the rifle around a second time and the butt whipped across the wolf's face again, a sickening crunch signaling the caving in of the impostor guard's skull. One wolf lunged then, it's teeth trying to find purchase on Alain's armor, but he sidestepped and thrust the rifle sideways into the creature's maw. Teeth shattered on the alloy weapon's stock, and the wolf yelped, falling back from the impact. Now unarmed, Alain slammed his fist into a wolf at his side, and focused his mind on it.

"Back..."

The armor's collant slits glowed fiercely, and a sudden wash of energy burst forth from the armor, lifting the wolf and sending it flying a clean fifty feet back until it slammed into a wall, knocking a path through it's comrades all the while. Alain backstepped twice as the glow subsided, and his hand gripped Suchara.

Your turn... you ready?

The shimmering longsword looked almost small in the hands of the battle armor, but then a crimson glow ran down Suchara's length, and strands of the same silver and black that made her sheath flowed out almost like a liquid, wrapping the armor in something like a second gauntlet over the first. Alain gasped slightly, feeling something like ice in his veins as the strands wove themselves through the armor, and under his skin, in his blood. The blade istelf grew longer, deadlier, a crimson streak down the center and two hooked serrations near the hilt. It grew to near six feet long, proportionate in size now to the armor as she had been to Alain, and he felt her smile.

Always... what about you?

Actually I could have used a little warning about that one...

Even so, his grip felt more confident, and he could feel her mind alongside his - this was certainly going to be as different as Sabre said... the sword would be helping him weild it...

Oh come on, Alain...

No, I know... let's go.

He raised Suchara slightly, and wrapped his other hand around the hilt, then he charged back into the fray, the blade glinting red as it struck. Different indeed...

Shale walked to the door of the Queen's office, and he knocked on the door before he opened it partially and looked inside.

"Highness, I was told you requested my presence... the Priestess told me an hour ago but when I came to find you you were asleep in your chambers, I did not wish to wake you."

He wasn't afraid of the Queen at all, nor of the Priestess - they were women whom he respected above all others, and he followed their orders out of that respect, not out of fear - though the recent events worried him, especially the appearance of this man from another world, this man wearing the armor the likes of which noone on Aronia had ever seen... still, the man was sincere as far as Shale could tell... and over the years he had gotten very good at reading people. Odd he may be, but he WAS a human... and as easy to read as any of the others. Mostly, anyway... he awaited the Queen's order after that, he was bold enough to open the door but not bold enough to presume his entry would be tolerated unasked. Even if it would... he showed his respect in this way, and this way he would continue to do so.

The temple was nothing short of impressive yet it did not move it's gaze from Victoria. It made its way up the stairs as slowly as it had gotten to the temple. The slow footsteps brining it a couple of yards away from the priestess before it stopped.

It moved its head from side to side, taking in its surrounding briefly before looking back to her. It had followed as told, more importantly it was still near this woman. It was an odd thing, this need to be near her, as if not his own want but some binding instead. Doing so gave it this odd feeling of purpose that it craved so desperatly. Now it simply stood their silently, as if waiting for the Priestess' next request or perhaps simply waiting for her to speak first.

As she ran, Sabre mumbled quietly to herself, the words of a dead, arcane language. When she reached the wolves, Althea came to life, sending out shocks of lightning at a pair of the wolves. Slashing Virote down across the chest of the nearest wolf, she watched his fur light up in flames. A smile spread across her lips when the blood of one wolf spattered across her face after Althea lunged for its throat, slicing deep into its flesh.

Norban's eyes widened. His adrenaline began to pump as the dark woman and armored man charged. Letting out a bloodcurdling howl, he felt himself grow more and more powerful as if a spell were being cast on him. He pumped his lower legs and, like the other two, charged forward much faster than he'd ever been before. When he reached a small section of the wolves, he made sure to slow, but only enough so that he wouldn't crash through the wall when he would reach it. Arms held out wide, his claws slashed two wolves on either side of him before he closed the distance between them, thus creating a barrier for the three wolves in front of him. None of them were quick enough to escape.

Althea and Virote continued to hack and slash, creating a path through the wolves towards those with the true wereguards. Sabre's keen ears perked up at the sound of a crash and she looked sideways briefly. The smell of burnt fur as well as a pained howl erupted from in front of her as she watched, satisfied, Norban smash three of the wolves into the wall at once with his improved strength. Sabre grinned to herself, turning back to face the last imposter before the true wereguards. The poor bastard had no time to think before Althea, crackling like mad and Virote, still burnnig brightly, cut through his throat and waist simultaneously. A loud laugh escaped Sabre's lips while she let Althea zot the ropes keeping the true guards tied up, thus freeing them. So far, including the human, she'd slain seven enemies.

Growling with satisfaction, Norban whirled to his right, grabbing the nearest wolf and picking him up, smashing him into the wall. A sickening crunch and quickly silenced whimper were all that could be heard from it. Whirling around again, he picking up a pair of wolves - one in each hand, and with a loud howl, threw them out the window one after the other. They smashed through the glass as if it were a piece of paper and finally slid down the building opposite's wall into the trash pile where their dead bodies would add to the rot.

Knowing full well that Alain would be able to handle any and all the other wolves, Sabre waited until Althea and Virote had cleaned themselves of the enemies' blood before sheathing the blades. Smiling contentedly, she strode over to the dead human. Her fingers went through the pockets, pulling out the scrolls of parchment, along with an odd ring. Taking the obvious sorcerer's dagger, she tucked it into her belt. She would study these items later. For now, she focused her attention on the map, the sounds of battle continuing to sound in her ears. Brushing the blood from the map as best she could, she scowled. It was still stained somewhat, but from what she could see, it was a map of the city with the castle as the main part. Entrances she did not even know about were bolded on this map, securing her hypothesis. With a small sigh at the map, she waited for Alain to finish toying with his food so she could tell him of her find.
Wash: I think they really captured his essence.
Kaylee: He looks kinda mean.
Wash: That's sorta what I meant.
Simon: This must be what going mad feels like.

Alain grinned slightly as Sabre and her massive friend also leapt into the fray, as he tightened his grip on Suchara and leapt back in as well. With one massive sweep, he cut two wolves in half, leaving their severed halves to drop, bleeding profusely, to the ground. This gave a few of the others pause, but Alain wasn't about to give them any. He lunged for one, and felt something of a tug from Suchara, a call, and he did what he could, directing his mind out through her blade. Suddenly his suit also registered a power draw, and the blade flared with energy suddenly emitting something like a lance of energy that pierced a hole at least six inches wide through an impostor guard and nailed him to the wall, then flared again and vanished. Alain blinked once, looking at the hole in the wall where it had slammed in, but he didn't have time to ponder the meaning just then. A wolf leapt at him from the side, so he jumped back, hit the ground and did a roll before holding his left hand out, the one suchara hadn't somehow melded with, and focused on his armpr's circuitry. Six slis opened up around his forearm as he clenched his fist, and the armor along with his telekinesis generated a massive sort of airburst. There was a roar almost like a sonic boom, and the misshapen creature was nearly torn apart, but then it just collapsed to the ground - Alain had crushed it in midair as it leapt. Suchara scoffed.

I coulda done that.

Alain just laughed a little, then he ran forward, using her to slash through the throat of another wolf, only to find himself surrounded by at least six of them. he was ready to go into another massive arcing swing and slice himself free, but Suchara stopped him

Now!

He wasn't really sure what she meant, but she took over for him and he lifted her up, pointing the tip of her blade straight into the air. So he did all he could do, and focused all the power her could into her. She flared brilliantly again, especially at the glowing core of her blade, and suddenly what seemed like hundreds of blades or lances of energy leapt up from beneath the wolves, in a circle around Alain piercing them in dozens of places and lifting them up into the air. Shocked, Alain lost his concentration, and the blades vanished, leaving the wolves to come crashing back to the ground in what was mostly a bloody pulp.

Aw you broke early. I was going to make them vanish.

You... what? How did...

I can direct energy, you just have to give it to me. Long story, I'll tell you some day.

Okay...

he lowered her as she shrank back to normal size, pulling her tendrils of silver and obsidian back out of his arm, and her sheath reformed around her blade as he attached her to the hardpoint on his armor and walked over to Sabre.

"You find something interesting, I hope?"

He stood beside her, and set the armor back to Level 2, the visor split and slid back and he peered at the map.

"Whats this of...? The castle? They were planning an attack with so few...? Can't be, the three of us took 'em easy and I bet we could have taken twice as many without too much more effort..."

It glanced at the red liquid. The familiarity of it caught him almost at once, the man who brought him to this realm. He couldn't remember why he had been manifested though. He couldn't remember much of anything, it seemed like his memory was leaking out like the liquid in a bottle with a hairline fracture in it.
He stepped forward but did not drink, even though his eyes were fixated on the fountain. It had no real interest in the fountain nor the promise of refueled strength. If he were made of flesh and bone like these vampires and mortals then it may have been true but he was little more than a dark weaving of magic with what was the sick wants and desires of a twisted mage. Now it was little more than simple dark magic wandering on its on, its own existance confusing it.

"We wish to know why we are here, how we are here, our history." that odd voice, the one that was a chorus of chaos. The words carried in near unison, some voices trailed by others while the occasional few spoke ahead of the assumed many. Its eyes closed then opened and a single, gentle voice spoke, "Why am I what I am?" the eyes closed and opened once more as now it awaited her response.

He walked in when she beckoned, and then he hugged her back gently, careful of her much smaller frame against his. Not that her size was any indication of her strength, that much was certain... still, he didn't want to bruise her human skin at the moment. It pained him just a little to see her reduced so, but then again there had to be some penalty for resurrection... and she would be herself again soon enough, he figured.

"The Priestess told me you wished to see me, as I said... though your reaction would seem to imply that I have been deceived - please take no offense at that, I mean no ill towards the priestess."

He shook his head a little, though, and sighed.

"Still... the fact that she would lie worries me. And while I believe the young human acted rashly, I am as worried as he about the state of affairs between you and the Priestess. And I never did take the prisoner to the penetentiary, I was intercepted by the Priestess. She told me she would take him and to come see you, and I was disinclined to argue the point... she's not in the best of moods. You know Alain was rather irritated with her behavior? I do beleive he cursed at her..."

Shale shook his head a little, chuckling softly. Was interesting behavior, certainly...

"Well, obviously they weren't factoring US in. And I'm willing to bet these mongrels hadn't been informed of their best warrior's treachery." Grinning, she patted Norban's arm (as close to his shoulder as she could reach without really reaching). "Nor did they know of the slaughter that occured in their little cave base." A satisfied smile rest on Sabre's lips as she reminisced about her little rendezvous earlier in the day.

Clicking back to reality, she chuckled and turned to the wereguards they'd saved. "Go around to all of the guard posts and retrieve one guard from each. Tell them to gather at the entrances. Nothing and nobody leaves or enters the city tonight unless I, or someone higher than me gives them permission. If any of the wolves at the guard posts have X's on their shoulder, do not let them escape. They are K.O.S."

One wolf barked his understanding and the trio dashed out. Sabre nodded after them, but quickly averted her attention to Norban, who let out a light mixture between a bark and a growl. His attention was on the shattered window. Had either of those two wolves survived? Growling now, he moved to the window. Both corpses were still there, entangled with each other. A lithe form, female by the smell of it, was leaving the alley. Norban's brows furrowed, but he had no reason to suspect her now, so he returned to Sabre's side.

"Well?" Sabre asked, intrigued some.

"Female in alley. Got scent in case." Norban's voice was louder and more gruff than those of the wereguards, but it was understandable none the less. Sabre nodded and returned her attention to the map.

"There's entrances here even I don't know about. I think I'm going to pay a visit to a general to see what his ideas on the situation are..." With that, she shook the parchment out some more before rolling it up and tucking it into the same pocket in her cloak which she'd stashed the sorcerer's other scrolls. "Didn't you wish to see the Queen? I think by now the wereguards should know you're okay, but I don't know if they'll let you that far into the castle unescorted. I'll get you to the Queen, unless you'd rather go back down to the dungeons with me to look for General Shale."

A small smirk played on her lips. It was quite obvious that Alain had taken to the Queen, but then again, what mortal man wouldn't? With a small jerk of her head, she motioned for them to head out. A wolf would be back here within minutes to secure the barracks.
