He watched her carefully. She didn't seem to be threatening, and she had some strange items with her. The caught his attention for a brief moment. Then he heard her question and his ears twitched, slowly he brought himself to look at her again and there was that confused look he had. He looked down at the chains wondering then slowly extended his arms. Giving a nod of approval but the look of anger that crossed her face caused him to draw back, as if struck, he even looked at her hands as if waiting for it. Her other question he just shook his head, the word but a whisper on his lips, "Slave....Helmer's.." |

Her eyes changed instantly, her brow dropping and unfurling itself. She was not angry at him, though the look upon his stricken face seemed to think that she was. Reaching out, she lay a gentle hand on his arm, steadying him. That was no way to start this. He should not be uncomfortable when the chains came off, because then it would give him a mental attachment to the chains as comfort. He didn't need that, especialy with them eating away at him. The scars were to be bad, she could see already. It hurt her heart to see one so in pain and uncaring of it at the same time. "I'm not mad at you, just my past." She said gently, slowly moving to take the spike from it's hold. Her eyes flitted quickly to his face though at the mention of slave. She had heard it as she was quite close to him, whisper or not. How could it be? It was obvious that this man was the slave and not Helmer...whom ever that is...or was, after all this being was here and not there. She had stopped her work to remove the bindings, but resumed once her mind got over the cataclysmic realization that slavery was real. Where she came from it was not, it was a thing of the past. She definately wasn't in Kansas anymore, so to speak. Pulling the chains from around his arms she felt relief for him, and knew it was probably ten times better for him. A little bit of hope filled her mind. All good was not gone from the world. |

He did not look up to her to notice the smile. Instead he watched her work on his arms. His muscles tence through the entire process. He didn't wince once, though the pain was no more than a dull sensation to him. So use to it he was that he felt naked without the chains digging into his skin. Once she was done he lifted his arms to look at them, slowly rubbing his hands over where the chains had bit into his skin. The cuts and abbrations had already stopped bleeding. He glanced to the chain, then back to her. Slowly a smile crept across his lips, though it did reveal sharper than average teeth, it was still a smile. |

She continuously looked up to him as she finished the procedure of removing the chains from him. His tension concerned her a little, Mayhap he would just end up putting them back on, but she didn't think so. Sonia was glad to see that the lacerations were not so deep that they cut to the bone. She had seen that before and it was not pretty. Removing the Last bit of chain, she rocked back on her heels and smiled at him in return. "That better?" She said calmly, assuming that it probably was. Her eyes met his and the look within was a little confusing. "How long have you been wearing those?" Her brow furrowed a little. It could have been years for all she knew. And probably each time they were taken off so he could heal, they were more than likely put back on and ate right through the scars that most certianly would be there. Her own hands went to her wrists, touching them thankfuly. What Pain had he endured to be where he is now? Probably much. People had always trold her that she was soft of mind, and she cared too much for others, even when she herself suffered. She didn't look at it that way. If made her suffering less to help those that needed it. Her own smile widened as his came over his face. Her ankles were ireing a little, so she sat back on her rear and crossed her legs indian style. Taking the Spike end of the chain, she looked it over. It was quiet a primitive contraption. No way that something like this was still used. She planned to decipher where she was, but didn't know where to start. It really didn't matter at the moment though, she was too interested in this man's joy. His teeth gave away a difference in him though. She had never seen anything white like that, on the streets of Ny, except for those creeps who filed their teeth to resemble Vampires. She wondered wether or not he was human, as she wasn't sure. And there was no nice way of asking such a question. In her time, that would have been a slam, or she just would have been laughed at perfusly. |

It nodded at her question, idly rubbing its forearms. The chains had been on long but years were something he rarely heard. He had been young when locked outside to the fences but it was a few years later when they had placed them upon him, "Seven..." was the number he thought and so he said stated in that whispering way he spoke. He grinned still, it had been a good few days, escape, kindness, revenge, and more kindness. By far this was the most pleasurable day he could remember. He stretched a bit, flexing his arms as if to test them. He looked up to her and an even larger smile came to his face, "Thanks." the word just louder than the whispers he had been talking in. |

Drake looked back at her, then to her hand on his arm, and shook his head. "I'm fine. It's you I worry about. And frankly, Isabel, I don't trust them. You may have noticed but I'm really not very good with people..." He looked back up at the sky for a time, then he just looked away and picked up the rock on the floor, tossed it up once, and caught it. "And now all of a sudden our little hole is getting very crowded and I'm not sure I like where this is going to go. That's not what bothers me the most, though. I can handle what comes at us in that direction, I've killed plenty of times, I've no problem with it if I have to... but I think you do." He put his hand over hers, and looked over at her, eyes glowing just slightly in the dark. "I know you, Iz... and as irritated as I might have been since we got back here after all of this I know for a fact that you have been killing yourself inside your head.... I can see it in your eyes. You didn't do anything wrong, Isabel... those people deserved every bit of it and you know that... why are you beating yourself up over it? How many good people do you think he's killed...?" |

"You can say that again," Isabel mumbled, but her eyes held a playful sparkle. That sparkle flickered out of existence almost as quickly as it had appeared and she frowned. "Drake..." she breathed. She stopped there, letting him finish what it was he was saying. It scared her, his talk of killing. He was just so... so... OPEN about it. They had been in countless bar brawls and alleyway fights before, but none of those had ever ended in anyone's death.... had they? Isabel's life flew by in front of her eyes. She stood, mouth wide open in front of Drake for what seemed years, but was really only a few moments as she re-lived every skirmish she and Drake had ever been in. In just about every fight, her third eye zoomed in on at least one motionless body. He hadn't been lying. He HAD killed before. And so had she. She's just never noticed it before this. "Huh..." Blinking, she refocused her attention on Drake and smiled lightly. "I'm okay. I understand it all now. It's okay." Moving her hand up, she brushed the side of his face lightly with her fingers. "Don't stress yourself, Drake. Everything's going to be just fine." |

Wash: I think they really captured his essence. Kaylee: He looks kinda mean. Wash: That's sorta what I meant. Simon: This must be what going mad feels like. Kaylee: Everywhere I go, his eyes keep followin' me... | |

"Hell yes it will be. Odd visitors or no." He grinned a little, and hugged her close. "Just like it always has. After all, we've survived up until now, how much more can the world throw at us, hm?" He knew that was asking for it, but in a way it seemed like the two of them always did ask for it in some way... ah well, though. "Don't think I enjoy the killing, either... I've always done it so you wouldn't have to. I'd rather live with that than with you getting hurt..." He let go of her and looked to her eyes for a moment, before he shook his head. "Flawed logic maybe... but somehow I'll make it work in the end... we both will." |

Isabel couldn't help but smile at Drake's sudden optimistic demeanor. "Yeah... Yeah, I suppose we have, haven't we?" Moving forward, she wrapped her arms around Drake's torso in a friendly hug. She closed her eyes and let out a sigh as she listened to him continue to speak to her. What he talked to her about wasn't a topic she really cared to hear about from him, but his voice sure was comforting. "I think I have, too, Drake. I just never noticed it. It's like... You go through your whole life, not paying attention to what's going on around you and how you're affecting those around you. I should have been paying more attention to what was going on and to what I was doing..." She shook her head, but smiled softly despite herself. "Who CAN enjoy it? It's a part of life, sure, but it's a more depressing part. I just needed to own up to my actions and take a look back at things. Hindsight is 20/20, after all," she chuckles quietly. "You don't need to shelter me so much anymore, Drake - least of all from myself. I'm a monster on the inside and I realize that now. My powers... They're near unstoppable, but I can control them. I HAVE to control them. No more excuses and naivety from me, I promise." |

"I've always known how it affected people... I just always figured it was a battle." He shook his head a little bit, and then he kissed her forehead. "You're not a monster, Isabel... you're the angel around here. I've always been the monster... you're the brake on that for me, the only reason I... well I've got some issues of my own with people... I would have taken them out on this city a long time ago if it weren't for you. Your poweres are just another part of who and what you are, so you need to just accept that, alright?" He smiled a little bit, softly, and then he walked over to the edge of the open space, leaning against it a little bit. "I've always tried to keep you from all this... but I suppose I had to fail sometime..." |
