He was sitting at the bar, kind of mulling over a beer, thinking about the job he and Isabel had pulled the other day. Hadnt paid off nearly as well as they had thought, and really had been far more trouble than it was worth. But hell... at least they were stil eating, and they had a little gold saved up. It was fourteen years since that day when he and Isabel had first met, and true to both their promises, they had hardly even been apart for all that time. Of course, neither had ever gotten a real legitimate job, what with his blood and her sometimes erratic ability... he had now been a theif most of his life, though they would take mostly any job. He was about to order another beer, since his was about finished, when a hand clapped on his shoulder and he felt the cold steel of a knife pressed against his throat. "You're that bastard that stole my gold last week aren't you...?" Drake stopped, his mug still in the air, and sighed. "Maybe. But if I was, you'd be in a bad position." The man looked at his friend, and both shrugged. Since they didnt seem to get it, Drake elaborated. "You never hold a knife to a person's throat like that. Because the way you've got me, I can do this." Before the man even knew what hit him, drake had slipped out of the man's grasp, then grabbed his arm and twisted it around viciously, slamming his head down on the hardwood bar. His friend tried to help, but drake locked a hand around his wrist, kicked him in the back of his leg, forcing it to buckle, then had the tip of his knife pressed lightly against the man's neck, just off center. "You do it like this, so if they move you can cut out their jugular before they can get away. See?" Several other men stood, and Drake winced. Wow. How does an ugly bastard like that have so many friends...? "Ah ah! Sit back down or I'l be fillin' shot glasses with this man's blood, y'hear?" Isabel, now would be a good time... Several men weren't listening... |

Wiping her wet, clean hands on the bottom of her shirt, Isabel emerged from the Ladies room and looked up. She groaned at what she saw - Drake with a knife pointed at one man's throat... surrounded by a large group of other men. "God dammit!" she hissed. "You guys better back the hell off of my friend!" she yelled across to the men. They looked over at her, took one glance at her thin frame, grinned and turned back to Drake. All but one. He broke off from the group and headed over to Isabel. "You call this little whelp your friend? Ha! You're much too pretty to be hangin' around this dog. Now just stand back and let us men handle the situation." With a wink, he turned and began making his way back over to the middle of the commotion. Closing her eyes, Isabel growled under her breath. Her leg flew out and cracked the man in the side of the head. Spinning back to both of her legs, she ran forward and leapt onto a table, sending another kick to another man's head. A few men on the other side of the circle floated up, unable to control their bodies. They then crashed into the rest of the men. Opening her eyes, she carefully lifted Drake's arm, letting that man slide away, frightened. "Now, you dogs can either choose ONE man to fight my friend in an honorable duel... or you can all get the hell out of here. Dohn-ma?" Her dark violet eyes blazed as she stared the group of men down. "Filthy creatures..." she murmured, waiting for their response. |

"One man? Come on, one man wouldnt be fair, and you well know that. Nice timing though." He pushedhis hair back from his face, and sheathed his knife, laughing a little as the first man groaned and tried to get up from where he had collapsed on the floor. "This seems really to be his problem anyways..." One other man spoke up: "the money you took wasnt his. it was all of ours, gambling money for the fight!" Drake raised an eyebrow. "Well, that'll teach you to gamble, hm?" The man let out a yell and ran at him, drake just grabbed his arm and clotheslined him, sending him flying onto a table. "Reckless. You know I think they still want a fight..." he looked at them, several of whom really didnt look like they wanted to fight anymore... |

Isabel sighed and shook her head. "Well if y'all still want to fight him, then at least take it out of this poor man's," she motioned to the angry, and getting angrier, tender,"bar. It's called being polite. I know, I know... Big word for such little brains, but perhaps someday you'll learn." She flashed a smile around the room, placing her hands on her hips as she watched their reactions. A good portion of the men had lost interest in the fight, mainly the ones who'd been affected by her powers, she noticed. When one man, one very brash man, spoke up, she was surprised. "Why don't you fight us, little lady. You seem to have quite the mouth, don't you? I don't much care about the money anymore - I just don't like smartasses like yourself." A few of the men nodded their agreement with him. Rolling her eyes, she pointed to the door and made her way outside. Once out, she cracked her neck and rolled her shoulders. As the four men who'd been more interested in hurting her exited the building, she leaned back against the doorframe. "I'll let y'all make the first move. And don't worry about going one on one," she sighed, closing her eyes. They didn't. Two men lunged at her, one from either side. The man with the mouth grinned and pulled a knife out of a sheath at his hip. The two lunging got closer and closer and finally crashed into each other. Their target wasn't there anymore - or rather their paths had changed to that she was not their target without their knowledge. "Is that all you've got?" Laughing, she dodged the knife bearing man by moving to the side gracefully. The fourth man reached out, attempting to wrap his arms around her from behind, but found that his arms wouldn't move as his feet were pulled out from under him by some invisible force. Spinning, the knife man was charging Isabel again. Instead of getting close to her, he decided to be smart and threw the knife towards Isabel. The knife stopped in mid-air half a foot away from her face. It spun, now pointing back at the man... and it charged. "Shit!" he yelled. "What kind of crazy witch are you?!" The man ran back into the bar and leapt clumsily over a table on its side. The knife stuck into the thick wood, the tip protruding on the otherside half an inch from the man's nose. "Not a witch. Just a girl," she said, following him slowly, her eyes now open looking over to Drake with an almost sad expression. "Just a girl in this crazy world..." |

As they all ran at isabel, his face hardened. it had been fun before, but if one of them so much as touched her... but they wouldnt. He knew none of them was even going to get close, and so he stayed still, until she had taken four, and the men had been sufficiently dterred from attacking her to come after him. They probably thought that they could get him maybe and she would stop with her power... fat chance. Two came at him from either side, he growled a little bit, then lunged forward and punched the man in the throat, then reversed his momentum and crushed the other man's nose with his elbow. They both fell, and he looked at the blood now on his sleeve. "Dammit... that'll stain..." He barely even moved as another would be attacker swung a short sword, but the slight motion meant the blade missed, even if just by a hairsbreadth. He drew his knife then, and deflected the second swipe, then rolled to the side and clipped the man with a beer stien he had grabbed off a table. Beer splashed, but the man went down, out cold. He threw the rest of the beer in the face of another attacking person, then kicked him solidly in the chest, driving him back to trip over a chair and knock his head on the floor. The tavern was now rather a mess, so he walked to her side and whispered in her ear. "As fine a shindig as this is turning out to be, we might want to go before we attract too much attention..." |

She watched Drake's fight with a small smile on her face as the three other men came stumbling back into the bar. They veered away from Isabel, finding their seats quickly and taking long drinks of their beer. "Good idea..." she murmured back. She sent Drake a winning smile and sent a few gold coins over to the tender. "There's a few extra for ya," she told him with a wink. He shook his head, but grinned. He'd been putting up with their brawls for awhile now. At least they paid for what they broke. Grabbing Drake's hand, Isabel waved to the men before taking off out of the bar. Once she was outside and the door was closed behind them, she threw back her head and laughed. "I'd hate to see those men's faces when they try to pay their bill," she snickered, gazing through the window at those men who'd she'd made crash into each other. "I just can't help myself sometimes." Shrugging, she put on a face of innocence before breaking out into laughter again. "Race ya home?" Before he could answer, she took off down the street, a huge grin on her face. |

He grinned, and followed her outside, then shook his head a little. "yeah, are those guys in for a shock, huh? Well, I'm sure they'll figure someth- HEY!" She took off, and he took off after her, laughing despite himself. She pulled that one all the time, and somehow she always maganed to catch him with it... oh well. He had been saving this shortcut for a while. While she ran down their usual path from the inn, he scrambled up a wall - about eleven feet, he really had to run to get up that - and onto the rooftop. he ran from there, leaping from rooftop to rooftop, waving to her from one when he was a little bit ahead, and laughing. "Hey down there! Hows the dust?" |

Her mouth opened in shock when she heard his voice from above. Without stopping, she looked up and scowled at him playfully. Putting on a burst of speed, she dashed around a corner, into an alley, where she continued to charge forward. Closing her eyes, she picked herself up and zoomed up to roof level where Drake was hopping a few buildings in front of her. Opening her eyes, she grinned and flew herself forward until she was floating evenly paced with Drake. Rolling onto her back, she winked at him. "See ya at home, you little cheat!" Laughing, she sped herself up more, passing Drake. A few blocks ahead, she smiled. She was almost to the alley where they usually entered the aqueducts. A shock hit her mind and she stumbled, mid-air. She dropped herself, grabbing at her head as she fell onto a rooftop and skidded to halt finally near the edge. Writhing in pain, she shook her head multiple times, trying to get the man out of her mind. This had never happened before, so why was it happening now? Was it time? It had to be. Her old Master was close and still up to no good. God, he was close - so close it burned. |

"Cheat!? You're the one flying!" He laughed and sped up, but he knew he wasnt going to be any faster unless he changed... and he hadnt done that in years. In fact, he had never even let Isabel see him change... he still worried that if she saw, she would leave. It was stupid, and he knew it... but even so. They had never been in a situation that desperate. He saw her start to fall, and his blood went cold. "Isabel!" He jumped off the rooftop he was on and landed next to her, then lifted her head and held her close against his chest, shaking his head. "It's happening again... we shouldnt have come so close. Are you alright...?" He brushed her hair back from her face, and winced a little. She was cut up from the fall, and was going to have some wicked scrapes... needed to get her cleaned up and bandaged... "Come on, I'll take you home..." |

She heard her name from far away and winced. Drake was by her side then. Drake... She sent her mind at him, wrapping herself tightly within him to barrier herself from that horrible burning feeling. ~I'm okay...~ she cooed from inside his mind. It was the first time she'd ever tried speaking without her mouth and it was proving to be quite an interesting experience. She was sure it was even more interesting for poor Drake. ~Have to focus...~ Her body twitched where it was as she slowly unravelled her mind from Drake. The pain was slowly returning, but it wasn't as big of a shock as it had been when she'd sent herself floating straight into it. She had to think of a way to fight this feeling. The burning sensation continued to sear into her brain, but she fought to keep her consciousness as she tried to figure something out quickly. Perhaps if she... Wrapping one of her mind's tendrils around her own mind, she felt a refreshing wave of relief, and of consciousness wash over her. Opening her eyes, she looked up at Drake. "Tomorrow. We have to end it once and for all. I can't do this forever." With a small groan, she rolled onto her stomach and began to attempt to pull herself up to her feet. |
