Forgotten: No one can escape. A great flash emerged above all of Aronia leaving each with short term memory loss. Years lost to the fog of amnesia. Can no one recall? That appears to be the case. Whom or what is responsible? Panic has stricken the globe. Will civilization collapse? What will emerge from the reset? Only time will tell. To each citizen of Aronia from the Global Gazette, we wish all luck.
Welcome to Aronia. We hope you enjoy your visit.

She heard Drake's words, felt his body tremble slightly and then felt a tear drop onto her cheek. Sitting up, she looked up at him with her dark blue eyes and shook her head. "No cry. It's okay." Her small fingers went up and gently brushed away his tears. "We gotta be strong. Mommy said to be strong. Eat..."

Unwrapping the bundle with the cheese, she grabbed the piece she'd been nibbling on yesterday and held it up to his mouth. "Need to be strong today. Mommy can't wait for me any longer. There's no time." Taking in a deep breath, she put up a small, reassuring smile for Drake and broke off a piece of cheese for herself. Her mommy was not in a good condition. Their bond had weakened more than it ever had overnight.
Wash: I think they really captured his essence.
Kaylee: He looks kinda mean.
Wash: That's sorta what I meant.
Simon: This must be what going mad feels like.

He ate some, swallowed, and nuzzled her cheek a little, smiling.

"I know. Just having some bad memories, isabel... it's nothing to be worried about."

he listened, and ate some, making sure she ate too, then he nodded, and looked into her eyes.

"Okay. We'll go then. But I want you to stay in the tunnels, while I go and get her. It's starting to sound too dangerous for you, I'd never forgive myself if you got hurt."

He put a hand on her cheek gently, having pulled off the black glove he usually wore. The skin on his hand was a little dry, and it actually resmbled scales in some places on his wrist, and in the flickering light his ears were the same way, and slightly pointed. They hadn't quite been like that before, but with the thought of battle, his blood heated a little, just a little, and that was what happened.

"What does that man call himself? I can get to his house, or at least close, from underground..."

"I know... I have them, too..." The cheese was no match for Isabel's hungry stomach. The piece she'd broken off for herself did not last long. Taking a small breath, she shook her head again.

"I have to bring you. I don't know how to get there from down here." As his hand touched her face, she shivered some. It was incredibly dry. Looking down at it, she stared in wonder. "Can you control it?"

She frowned. She'd never heard the Master called anything but that. "Master. He's rich and mean. And we need to get Mommy!" Closing her eyes, she fell from the cot, grabbing at her head. The pain was gone as soon as it had come and she opened her eyes. "Mommy... Mommy!!!" Scrambling to her feet, she dashed over to the ladder and then up it as books and a chair flew around the room wildly. She ran down the tunnel as fast as she could and up the ladders she remembered they'd come down, silent tears flowing freely from her eyes for once.

He nodded a bit, looking down at his hand and sighing.

"I can stop myself from really changing, but this just kind of happens on its own... You dont have to worry about me getting fangs or anything like that though - Isabel!"

She was off quicker than he could react, he was so surprised, but once he did he sheathed his long knife and ran after her, leaping up the first ladder without even touching it, then he ran to the other one and caught her just as she started running away from the open cover. He put his arms around her waist, gently but not letting her run, and whispered in her ear.

"isabel, please, stay quiet."

he pushed the cover closed with his foot, and slowly let her go.

"Lead the way. I'll follow you. But don't ever run off by yourself. If you're going to rush headfirst into trouble..."

he pulled his black glove on and patted the knife hilt.

"I'm going to be right there with you. So tell me next time. But for now lets go."

This was more his territory. It was barely light out, and his eyes reflected the early morning sun, almost seeming to glow. He smiled at her just a little though. She would need to relax...

She felt something stopping her once she reached the surface and tried frantically to get away from it. Hearing Drake's voice, she calmed a bit and finally relaxed some. She didn't raise her voice, or even speak, but nodded instead.

Squirming out of his arms, she grabbed hold of his hand without the glove and pointed to the left, out of the alley. "Hurry..." she whispered to Drake. "Wait for me, Mommy... Please..." Tears were still falling down her cheeks, but she didn't care. Squeezing Drake's hand, she took off running again, going as fast as her short legs could carry her.

When she had escaped yesterday around this time, she had zigged and zagged her way through town. If they took a straight path down the main street and then took another left a few blocks away, they would be there within fifteen minutes, easily.

he nodded and ran after her, it was very easy to keep pace with her little body when he easily outstripped most adults, even now. As they ran, he kept his eyes out for guards, he knew they wouldnt recognise him on sight, but there was always the chance someone had gotten a look, and he was always careful. So he made sure they didnt see her either. Finally, something clicked, and he smiled a little.

"hey, I know where we're going."

he picked her up, and ran, since he could go faster carrying her than he could following, and stopped in front of the house, setting her down.

"I've been here. Stole a load of money. Which room is your mother in, isabel?"

He drew his knife, silently, its razor edge gleaming in the light.

She gasped quietly as she was swept up gracefully into Drake's arms. She almost smiled at the feeling of the wind rushing past her; she felt weightless at the time, like an angel.

Her eyes opened when they slowed down and she trembled at the sight of the house. When he drew his knife, she put her hand on his. "No need..." Furrowing her brows, she searched for the dogs not with her eyes, but her mind. They were around back, getting their breakfast. Good - they were distracted. "I don't know anymore..."

She slipped through the small space between the front gate and the side brick wall. It was easily big enough for a scrawny boy like Drake, but not big enough for the Master's huge hounds and large bodyguards to slip through. Once on the other side, she closed her eyes, crouching beneath a bush. She turned her head as her mind scanned the area and finally stopped a little to the right.

"Office... Office?" Creeping forward, she stopped at the side of the house and peered into the open window. Hannah had already been around and opened all the curtains she saw. What she saw inside the window, however, she did not like. A small whimper escaped her lips and she looked around frantically. A vent a few feet away, the same vent she'd escaped through yesterday, sufficed her needs and she yanked it open furiously and disappeared inside.

Creeping quickly and silently through the vent system, she let her mind slip all around her, searching for the closest exit to her fallen mother. She wasn't sure how far Drake had followed her once they'd gotten to the house, but her mind was set on finding her mommy... which she did soon. Emerging from the vent, she crawled into the empty room and rushed to her mommy's side. She didn't look good. If she was alive, she didn't look to be able to last much longer.

He nodded a little to her words, but he kept the knife out. He could smell the men, and the dogs... far enough off. Good. He had a bit more trouble than she did fitting through all the tight spaces, but finally he dropped out of the vent at her side, and gasped slightly.

"Oh, god..."

That bastard... why did he do this to her!? A low growl escaped his throat, and he moved silently to the door, then looked under the crack. As he thought, there was a man outside it. He could see the man's feet through the crack. He smiled slightly, and moved to the side, pressing his back against the wall. He put a finger to his lips, and thought. They wouldnt be able to carry the woman out through the vent... so he would have to knock the guard out. But he would need to wait until he was sure there was no one else nearby... one would be easy to take out quietly... two...

"Iss..a...el..." her mommy croaked when her eyes opened to find her crouching there at her side. "Angel?... am... in heav...n?"

Isabel put her fingers gently over her mom's lips to silence her. Her eyes moved around the room and she didn't refrain herself from sending the Master's papers flying all around behind his desk. Moving to the desk herself, she opened all the drawers quietly and rummaged through them, not caring if she bent or tore or crumpled papers. A small, but heavy coin purse stayed in her hands, as did a knife... THE knife...

When she moved back to her mom, she shook her head silently. "Mommy... No..." The connection was gone. Completely empty. Her mind was barren. It was a shock and she sat there, staring down at the woman who'd been her entire life for the past six years. She'd always been brave and had only wanted what was best for her little girl. Her only little girl.

Kissing her mommy's forehead gently, she looked over at Drake with a helpless look on her face that told him everything - it's all over. Motioning with a nod of her to the vent, she asked him to go back to the outside. What she was going to do would make noise and she didn't want anyone to see where they'd come from. She wanted to escape with Drake before anyone could catch them.

He shook his head, and moved over to her, smiling a little.

"No... I'm not leaving until you do. We leave together and at the same time. Do what you have to do, okay?"

He was trying to forget what had just happened... that poor lady... poor Isabel... this wasnt right, not right at all. If isabel wasnt still here he would kill every guard in this house, and then finish the damned master... if only he knew what to do... he certainly wanted his knife to taste blood this morning... blood of the people who had done this...
