Forgotten: No one can escape. A great flash emerged above all of Aronia leaving each with short term memory loss. Years lost to the fog of amnesia. Can no one recall? That appears to be the case. Whom or what is responsible? Panic has stricken the globe. Will civilization collapse? What will emerge from the reset? Only time will tell. To each citizen of Aronia from the Global Gazette, we wish all luck.
Welcome to Aronia. We hope you enjoy your visit.

As the planks are slammed against the deck of the Silver Valliant, a shady character makes his way down, the ramp. Discarding his cigarette to the salty wind he hikes his duffle bag up over his shoulder and adjusts his grip on his handbag as his aviator sunglasses slide down his nose a little way. He looks around, pushing up his glasses back up his nose to their proper resting place.

Buttoning up his long jacket he wanders down the dock towards dry land. His black cowboy boots clomp along the wooden planks as he walks towards the blockade. Reaching under his cloak to produce his passport and travel documents. He glances briefly at his concealed firearm as he re-buttons his jacket, not even offering a smile to the town guard as he hands over his identification and stares straight ahead, trying to avoid eye contact. The guard promptly hands back his papers and directs him through the checkpoint.

Breathing a sigh of relief he looks around for somewhere to find a good meal and a place to sleep. He eyes the Union hotel from roughly a block away and looks along the street as he makes his way across it towards the inn.

Not far behind where the sailor walked there was another figure, seeming really to follow him. It walked rather aimlessly, and was clad all in black, with a scarf that mostly covered the face, leaving only its oddly colored, light purple eyes to look out at the world. It was short, too, a good deal more so than most of the people that were walking. It made its way up to about where the man was before a shout rang out from somewhere in the crowd.

"Stop! Theif!"

The cloaked figure froze in its tracks, then there was a short bark of a laugh.

"Well, he had to notice sometime!"

He ripped off the cloak and scarf, and underneath there was a young boy, probably barely into his teens if he was at all, clad in ragged, oversized clothing that was held tight around his body by belts of various sizes. There was a long dagger on his hip, almost like a sword to him, and he had a package on his back that was near bursting, it was so full. He took off just as several men tried to push through the crowd, startlingly fast for his size.

ooc: Sorry, haha its a little bit poorly done/thought out, but I didnt want your thread to languish for lack of other participants. Welcome to the site ^_^

OOC: Sorry I haven't posted yet. I've got a character concept in mind... but I've been dealing with migraines for the past week and such and I haven't been on the compy in the past few days really. Heh heh... So I'll go make that character bio now while I'm awake and the pain is minimal. ^_^
Wash: I think they really captured his essence.
Kaylee: He looks kinda mean.
Wash: That's sorta what I meant.
Simon: This must be what going mad feels like.
Kaylee: Everywhere I go, his eyes keep followin' me...

OOC: Bah! I'll post first. ;P

IC:

Isabel's eyes were wide, red, and brimming with tears. She'd escaped from the men at last, but they were still chasing her. A shout went up about a thief and she almost fell over out of fright. 'No!' she told herself 'I have to find safety!'

Pushing forward through the crowd as fast as her little six-year-old legs would take her, she weaved in and out of the people without too many problems. Until he came running at her... She didn't have time to stop or turn. The boy was running even faster than she and neither had seen each other. Their bodies collided, sending shocks of pain throughout Isabel's body. She stopped crying as she fell to the ground and skidded back about a foot.

The shadowed figure looks back as he climbs the stone steps of the Union Hotel, smirking with satisfaction as the events on the street seem to draw attention away from him. He rubs his unshaven chin and pulls open the large glass door into to hotel's Lobby. (Tag Continued Under "The Union Hotel")

OOC: Sorry to be so slow with replies and whatnot, I recently got a new job IRL and things are currently very, very busy.

Ack!
*he fell back too, and growled a bit*
Hey what's your -
*when he saw that she was just a little girl, his expression softened a little bit*
Kayla...? No... damn!
*finally getting his compsure back, he got up, ran forward, and grabbed her arm*
Come on! This way, I don't want to get caught!
*gritting his teeth, he pulled her to her feet and ran, nearly dragging her along. He wasnt really even sure why he was taking her... but she reminded him so much of kayla... I should have forgotten a long time ago.... well too late now, I'm not going to ditch her halfway. Finally, he pulled her into another side alley, pushed a cover on the ground aside, and jumped down it, pulling her for the ride. He made sure she didnt fall, letting her land on her feet, and pulled the cover over again, shutting them in darkness*
Be quiet. Not a sound, you hear me?
*the only sound but for a trickle of water was him jumping down next to her*

Groaning, she felt herself being dragged as she attempted to get to her feet. The boy she'd run into said something to her, or perhaps at her, but she couldn't tell what. When she finally realized which direction they were headed, she whimpered and gripped his hand tighter and half crouched to make herself even smaller.

'Please don't take me back... Please don't take me back... We worked so hard...' she thought to herself, over and over as she ran blindly, letting the boy lead her. She didn't recognize him. Perhaps he wasn't one of the other slave boys. No. The look on his face was not one of anger or hate like those dispicable boys back at the master's house. His face was full of fear and determination. But what was he afraid of?

She didn't have time to ponder over this, or even look back to see if they were being chased, as she was tossed down a hole. To be honest, she hadn't even noticed they'd stopped running until she had to hop down into a dark, damp place.

"Where are -" She stopped talking as he said to be quiet and decided to take the time she had to look around her. This was physically complicated, of course, as there was no light. So, she closed her eyes and began to let the tendrils of her mind feel around. Two walls - a tunnel, perhaps a sewage drain? She cringed slightly and moved her mind to the boy instead. He was at least a head or so taller than she - obviously a few years older. His face seemed nice. It was not creased in the wrong places from frowning and scowling like the master's and all the other boys at the house.

Opening her eyes, she blinked a few times, readjusting to the darkness, and continued to wait until it was safe to talk.

*he waited until he heard angry voices, and the sound of footsteps overhead. They vanished soon after, and he breathed a sigh of relief*
You know the trouble you almost got me into? Yeesh...
*he struck a match, lighting the aqueduct they were in dimly, then he motioned for her to follow, and walked off down the tunnel. When he came to a ladder that led further down, he had to blow the match out before it burned him, and he lit another. He climbed down after that, and lit a candle that w as at the bottom*
Come on, don't lag behind.
*down that other ladder there was a smallish room with a small aqueduct in it that ran along the side. The rest of it kind of looked as if it had been dug by hand, but there was no shovel or anything. A few raggedy rugs covered the floor, and there was a cot and a few pillows against one wall. There was a shelf with some clothes, and even a few books. he went around, lighting candles that were there, then he shook the match to make it go out, and he sat on a very large pillow on the ground, shrugging off the large backpack he was wearing*
You can sit down if you want... I dont have many guests...
*Many? Try none...*

She squinted when the match was lit. Scrunching her nose against the smokey smell, she followed the boy down the tunnel. Down one ladder and then another. It was a maze, but she paid close attention to where she was going, noting each turn in the tunnel and where the ladders were.

When they finally emerged into a room-ish area, her eyes made an immediate sweep around it, checking for any other people. None that she could see. The boy's movements attracted her attention and she watched him for a few moments until he finally plopped down onto a pillow.

She didn't sit. Not yet, at least. Wandering around the room, she let her fingers drag along the surfaces of the shelves. She looked at the clothes and at the books. She couldn't read what they said, but that didn't matter. Her eyes swept back across the room, falling on the boy again. Moving over to him, she looked as if she was trying to decide what to do. Finally, she crouched down and moved up to lay curled up next to the boy. It had been a long day... a long, tiresome, lonesome day without her mother. Closing her eyes tightly, her body trembled as she tried to force herself not to cry.

He watched her for a while, a confused look on his face, but then he gave up trying to figure out what she was up to, and started rummaging through his backpack - the days theft. Some food, and a blanket or two - he had been cold lately with the winter onset. Little money, too, perhaps he could go a day without stealing... he heard her lay next to him though, and he looked at her, startled as she actually looked like she might cry. His face hardened, and he wanted to demand she grow up, but... She's only what... six? I was just like her at first, want I... all alone and not wanted by anyone... damn I thought I hd gotten over caring a long time ago... Finally, sighing a bit, he pulled one of the blankets out of the bag - a nice soft one, and he covered her in it, brushing some of her dirty and matted hair out of her face as some of his own fell in his.

"Now... don't cry, you're safe down here... safe as you can be anyway"

That... didnt sound particularly reassuring, and his cheeks flushed. He wasnt good at this... he had spent seven years avoiding people... and he hadnt spoken to another child, especially one younger than him, in even longer.

"um... Are you hungry? I got some fruit, and this cheese will just go bad if we dont eat it..."

He pulled the chunk of cheese out, and his knife. He cut a few slices, and offered one to her

"You look as hungry as I feel..."
