Apogee Board Commandments 1. Honour these rules, thy fellow posters, and Administrators, and your days at Apogee will be long and prosperous. Any arguments occurring elsewhere are to stay elsewhere, and will not be tolerated on this forum. Any arguments starting in this forum will quickly be squashed. 2. Thou shalt not flame! No poster will threaten, give warnings (except official warnings from Administrators/Moderators1), or attack another Apogee member (either through posts, or using this board's Instant Message feature). Do not submit a post or use this forum's Instant Message feature to attack anyone (writers, actors, fellow members, etc...) in a personal manner...this inludes harassment in any form. If you must gossip about fellow members with someone, do so using your own email, or chat features, please! *Administrators, and Moderators must distinguish between their normal posts, and when they are acting in an "official" capacity for this board. 3. Thou shalt not post pornographic material. Obscene literature (x-rated), or obscene pictures of any kind anywhere on this board (inluding links to such sights) is forbidden. Posting such material will result in immediate dismissal from the board, and possible legal action. The one exclusion is our humpty-humping emoticon. He's cute, and is no worse than a small dog humping your leg. 4. Thou shalt not post anything illegal, or otherwise promoting illegal actions. That includes things such as, copyrighted material, hacking, breaking security measures, promoting commercial advertising, and links to chain letters, or pyramid-type schemes. Hot-linking is also not tolerated. Posting links to such things can also result in your immediate dismissal from Apogee Message Board. When posting copyrighted material, you are allowed to only post a small portion (50% or less of the original content)...along with the link back to the original source material's website. 5. Thou shalt not post any racial, religious, ethnic slurs, or any potentially hurtful comments...unless they're part of a tasteful joke, and you have prior permission from the owner (Mark) to do so prior to the posting. Sometimes "intent" behind a poster's words will be called for. If a questionable post cannot be quickly clarified by Admin/Mods, it may be temporarily, or permanently edited by either the originating poster, or the staff (whomever is there and available). We want everyone to have fun on Apogee, and critical posts are permitted, but the line is drawn where posts go from criticizing, to being personal attacks. For instance, you can say something like..."That actor sucks", but not, "I'd like to kill that actor for their performance". You can criticize a writer's work for instance, but should not personally attack the writer. 6. Thou shalt not intentionally post any overly negative, hurtful posts regarding sexual orientation, race, or religious affiliation. 7. These commandments apply to everyone posting here, including Moderators/Administrators. Any violation of these rules should be reported to a Administrator, at once. Moderators' responsibilities include making sure members follow rules, mediating quarrels, and acting in an official capacity when rules are being broken. Moderators are allowed to give official warnings, however the third official warning2 must involve a Administrator before the warning is issued. Final judgements regarding conflicts, and final interpretation of rules will remain the sole responsibility of the Chief Administrator, and Owner...Mark Powell. As owner, I must retain the ability to have the final say in all conflicts. I promise to make my rulings as fair as possible, and they will be tempered with logic, and what is best for the board and it's long-term survival, active-membership, and newer members. 8. Invision also has a list of rules everyone must agree to when becoming a member here. All of their rules must be followed, also. InvisionFree Terms of Service Official Warnings 1 Members breaking rules are generally given three official warnings (depending on the violation/s). After the second warning, action/s may be taken to limit an offending member's normal board priviledges (such as having a mod approve posts before they are actually posted on the board). 2 After a third official warning, an offender may be permanently banned, temporarily banned, or placed in THE DARK SIDE forum. Adminstrators must be involved before a third warning is issued. THE DARK SIDE forum is a place an Apogee member may be designated to when they've violated board rules. Other Apogee members are unable to view, THE DARK SIDE forum. Only members who are currently confined to THE DARK SIDE (if any), will be able to read, and post there...along with Administrators. Conflicts between members and Administration/Moderators can be worked-out there, without the need for a ban. These Apogee Board Commandments are subject to minor changes, if, and when the need may arise. Mark Powell Chief Administrator/Owner Apogee Message Board |

Not sure what you meant by rule 6. Can I say I think the gay lifestyle is harmful? Or is that breaking the rule? |

Mark: :scratchin: Hmmm...very hard question to answer, Starshipp. Are you sure you don't work for the insurance industry? You may say, "a gay lifestyle is harmful", but you may want to back up that thought with some facts that support your viewpoint. Just don't flame gay people, in general. That is the same standing rule that goes for all minorities, or differing viewpoints. Saying something like..."I think gay people are idots", would be flaming. Saying something like, "gay people have many difficulties blending in with the socially accepted society" wouldn't be. Personally, I don't care if a person is gay or not...as long as they don't push their gay lifestyle, and beliefs on me...I'll be fine with it. If we push our heterosexual lifestyle onto someone else, that wouldn't be good either. Live, and let live...as long as they aren't up in yo face. |

'Kay. I'm not a flamer anyway. But if a discussion comes up, I sure don't want to be locked down when I'm just discussing! That would bug me like it has bugged you! ;) |

Mark: There'll never be a discussion locked-down on this board...unless there is flaming going on. So you've got no worries. |

I'm of the opinion that there are certain topics guaranteed to get everyone's blood boiling....usually religion and politics. Even those can be discussed if it is done respectfully and without those nasty generalizations that tend to raise the blood pressure. And in case the blood pressure gets to rising.....the discussion will be ended IF feelings are getting hurt. Or maybe I should say that I expect everyone to remain fairly level headed in their discussions and not take potshots at each other. I'd like to think we can all get along :grouphug: |

I agree Calli, we should all be able to get along. That is a good lesson I've picked up from working in politics: how to disagree without being disagreeable. You just never know when you'll be on the same side with someone on a different issue, and it is important to not take things too personally. I just meant sometimes people jump in the middle thinking discussion is getting heated when it really isn't but they are unable to allow something they themselves are uncomfortable with because if they were discussing, then they couldn't do it without getting upset. Also, when people's feelings are hurt, they can't resolve it if they can't talk! Of course at that point they probably need to go to Private Messages. I'm just saying I didn't appreciate getting cut off by an over zealous moderator and I'd encourage those here not to over rescue, especially when it isn't needed. :scubadiver: |

Mark: No, the new changes were elaborating on moderator's duties, and authority, and informing people of the warning system that's always been in-place, but has never been put into official wording. I also elaborated on my own authority, as Chief Administrator...informing everyone that I reserve the right for final judgement if and when conflicts occur between members, and/or members who are staff. That doesn't mean I'll be unfair, and won't consult with others before making a judgement call, but when the buck stops, it'll be stopping with me. I was also informing members that there is a place called, "The Dark Side" forum, where a poster may find themselves if they're habitually breaking the rules, and/or being disruptive. The Dark Side forum has always been there, but only a few members actually know of it's exsistence...and now everyone knows about it, and what it's purpose is. |

Can I post a racially insensitive or sexual orientation insensitive joke in the adult section or will that be against the board rules? |
