Thought I'd start a new topic to discuss our furry friends.... Yes, I mean our cats and dogs and other pets..... :D So I thought this would make a fine first topic.... Pet Oxygen masks
There are have been many incidents in the Houston area in recent months where they have used regular oxygen masks to revive pets. About the Rottweiler's change of attitude after being rescued.....even normally aggressive animals recognize what was done for them.
This organization and other are trying to raise money to provide more pet oxygen masks so that every fire truck can have one. |

I Love this. I watch a show called Animal Rescue & have seen many rescued that way . I'd only seen the masks in footage about Animal Hospitals . I am glad to know there is a project in place to help get these where they are needed . I have a lovely picture on my computer of a Firefighter being licked on the face by a pregnant Doberman he rescued . He had been scared of Dobies but he grabbed her & she showed her thanks by slurping off some of the soot . It makes me want to cry even thinking abou it . |

Miss Fluff, the kitty...or as she prefers to be addressed, Queen Fluff  has decided to be an outside kitty. Completely on her own. Most of her days are now spent draped over the front porch railing (in a rather precarious way, but so far she hasn't fallen off--that I know of) or under the shrubs. |

What a cute little fuzzy britches. No not the brunette . Our male cat Fluffy resides in Mom's bedroom now . He can but doesn't move around much anymore ,but when he wants his water which is usually away from him,he points at it with one front paw or he will point when he sees Us drinking & we know we had better get him some . I sit on a chair next to where the water is so he will also jump on me to get his drink then jump back off me onto His Chair or Mom's bed or sometime just back onto me for a cuddle . He got his name the old fashioned way. He looks & feels very soft . I love to snooze with him under my chin sitting in the chair .He is also the only cat we have who I'm so allergic to I have to take antihistamine to keep my eyes from watering all over him . |

I am watching Animal Rescue while I do my email & they just fixed up a 23 foot python with abcessed teeth. I think it was Inside Edition that had a story about a guy walking a Hollywood Dog of his[a Jack Russell terrier who has done movies & ads]poochie went down a roadbank after squirrel ."Dad" chased him & the roadbank gave way, he had to hang on for dear life till Firefighters Rescued Him . A Dear Lady had snatched the pooch by the scruff if his neck out of traffic in the Highway he ran into & took him to vet for checking .They read his tags & "Dad" & Dog were soon reunited with rescuer too. Yes I'm a sucker for Happy Ending ."Dad" got a few bumps & bruises , the scare he deserved & a Resolution to Use his Leash ! |

Not exactly a pet thing but they had a show on Animal Planet last night that I intend to catch future episodes of as well as the re-air of this episode. Called Meerkats and all about those critters. I've read the reviews and they say it is fascinating to watch them. Twas intending to watch it last night but I've never seen Runaway Jury before as I knew they changed a lot of the main story from the book. Anyhoo....Buddy the dog has decided that now he is allowed in the house during the heat of the day....(97 today)....that the floor is not good enough. I've caught him sprawled out on the couch---on his back, feet in the air---and he made himself comfortable in my bed...at least twice I've caught him there. Wondering if he might have been allowed in the house as a puppy (since he was a stray)....and spoiled rotten back then. Or if he has just always been a stray and outside dog who knows how to take advantage of the opportunity to sleep in comfort |

Wow oxygen masks! What a great idea! We watched Nature on the local PBS channel tonight and it was all about the rescues of pets after Katrina. At the end, the feds had learned not to turn pets away during Rita when folks were evacuating because of the disasters of refusing pets during Katrina. Least SOMETHING good came of it! <_< |

Mark: I learned how to perform CPR on my dog after I'd learned of his heart condition. The morning he passed, I used a bit of that knowledge, and his head went from a laying down, non-moving position, to moving quickly up...like he was startled. He quickly layed his head back down as the fresh blood I'd supplied via CPR, from his heart to his brain, subsided. :crybaby: I decided making him endure another day of heart malfunctioning wasn't worth it. Animal CPR is great, just make sure you use it at the right time. |

Mark: My little fellow who looks very similar has crashed a couple of times . It scared me badly . I picked him up & jostled him a bit & he came back . I have saved a couple of mine with the Heimlich Maneuver . |

Mark: Yeah, I've actually put my finger in "the lion's mouth", so-to-speak. Twas a precarious feat. EW, I forgot! Don't say "feat", or anything sounding like that word around, Callista, right now. |

You want the Lions Mouth, deliver a breech kitten from a Mama cat who is Not Happy ,understandably . But yes I've fetched choking things out of their mouths & if you want them to drop something from their mouth, pinch the sides of their jaws & they will likely drop whatever or whoever ,it is . Just use both index fingers & jab in the sides of their jaws ,reasonably gently . I rescued a little pooch from a big one by jabbing it's jaw from a distancewith a metal pole .The little pooch got away safely. |

What a cuuuuuuuuuuuuute doggie Mark! Sorry he's gone. Did you get another one? I'm not looking forward to my babies end of life. They are 9 years old right now, so we ought to get a few more years out of them, but my heart and guts will be ripped out when they go. I imagine losing yours was tough. :crybaby: |
