Okay, I know Matar made this topic awhile ago, but I've seen about 10 new anime series since then and I'd rather just start a new topic...so, yeah. Makai Senki Disgaea: Mmm...the video games are supposed to be really funny, but the anime just didn't measure up, kinda a mix of comedy and adventure that didn't really pan out. The ending was hilarious though. 6.5/10 Outlaw Star: Reminds me a bit of Cowboy Bebop, with a motley cast of characters going to a bunch of different planets and doing various stuff. The art is a bit dated IMO but the overall story and fighting are good. 8/10 Bleach: While it can be fairly unoriginal at times, it's still a pretty good anime, nice animation and character designs, good fight scenes, and while it has fillers, the filler episodes aren't half bad (or maybe it's just Naruto has lowered my standard of fillers horribly). 8/10 Golden Boy: One really weird anime, mostly sexual humor. Kinda funny, but not anything you'll remember for a long time afterwards, and it's age shows in the animation/character designs. 6/10 Full Metal Panic: Fumoffu: One of the best animes ever. Has a great English voice cast, nice animation, and is absolutely hilarious. A must watch if you haven't seen it, my only complaint is that it's too short. 10/10 Full Metal Panic: It's not quite as hilarious as Fumoffu, but still has a few funny moments. Otherwise, it's a decent but not great action anime that involves mechs. 7/10 Black Cat: Not a well known anime, but certainly a good one. This one also reminds me of Cowboy Bebop a bit, since the main characters are bounty hunters. Good animation and character designs, with a good story (which unfortunately gets a bit lost during the last 4 episodes). 8.5/10 Samurai Champloo: Pretty good anime overall. The fight scenes aren't very good, but the overall story and general wackiness of the anime make it worth watching. 8/10 |

I'll take this oportunity to - instead of just rating mediocre animes - point out the real jewels in the anime scene. Mushishi Mushishi is much like watching a dream really, a plain of human imagination where everything has meaning and symbolism, but often sparkles with an odd flourish of unbelievable supernatural vision. The mushi look like faded ghosts, mysterious apparitions wandering, shuddering, gliding through the world bent on purposes we never truly understand. Ginko is by default the "main" character of this series, but like the mushi he hunts, he often wanders through these episodes as a neutral bystander, interfering with characters and using just enough wit to force them into making life changing decisions. Sometimes it ends well, other times it's quite nasty, but then so is life.No car chases, no frivolous love affairs, no political intrigue, no plucky teens battling to save the world, just man, nature, and the unknown. This is a must see, especially if you like stuff like Kino's Journey or Princess Mononoke. Le chevalier d'Eon The story takes place in the 18th Century, on the eve of the French Revolution. It is the era of King Louis XV. Versailles glitters and its full glory and the great river Seine sees beautiful Paris in a ghastly chaos. One day at dawn, a lady's body is found in a casket floating along the Seine. Her name is Lia de Beaumont, and there is a mysterious word on the lid of the casket: PSALMS. Lia's younger brother, D'Eon de Beaumont, is a member of the secret police and is investigating the mystery of a series of disappearance of young women. Now his sister has become one of the victims. And as D'Eon goes after the case, a history of taboos opens its door... It's loosely based on the historical figure Le Chevalier D'Eon, who lived in the middle of 18th Century pre-revolution France under the reign of Louis XV. The character designs lean toward the realistic side, it combines state of the art CGI with traditional cells. It’s definitely appropriate for the anime, the fighting scenes are realistic but far from boring, it reminds me of Blood+. Even if you don't like, or even hate France (like I do), you should give this anime a try. That's it for now, check them out! |

Ok, well I know I've said these before, but I suppose I'll go into a bit more detail on my favorites. Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust: The only word I can think of to describe this movie is "Masterpiece." Critically acclaimed as one of the greatest anime movies of all time, and very deserving of that claim, this movie is, quite simply put, awesome. While the Japanese version is unavailable in America, the english version is actually very well recorded (part of the reason for this is that it was overseen by the writer of the novels and the director of the Japanese version) and the animation is superb. But now onto the important parts. Plot wise the story is one we've all heard before, but the manner in which it is told is masterful. The basic jist of things is this: Charlotte Elbourne, the daughter of a wealthy man, has been kidnapped in the night by a Noble (vampire) by the name of Meier Link. Without hesitation, Charlotte's father goes to the Hunters for help. D is one of these hunters, appointed with the task of finding Charlotte and bringing her back, one way or the other. However, D is not alone in this mission, and he must contest with the Markus Brothers, a family band of Vampire Hunters who have also been hired by the Elbournes to find Charlotte. The movie also delivers some spectacular action scenes which, when combined with the well told story and incredible animation make it one of the greatest films ever made. 10/10 Wicked City: A movie definitely designed for mature audiences. The movie itself is actually somewhat old, but while dated it still delivers a fantastic show. The story follows a man by the name of Toki who works for an agency to protect the human world from an alternate realm simply known as the "Dark World." Toki's mission during the film is for him and his new partner to protect a 200 year old man who signed the first treaty between the dark world and the human world so he can renew the treaty. However, rebels from the Dark World, beings who look down on humanity as inferiors and seek dominion of both worlds, are doing everything in their power to stop them, and to top it all off, Toki's partner is one of the people of the Dark World. For those who like darker stories, Wicked City is one of the darkest. While the animation is dated and the voice acting isn't superb, it still doesn't fail to deliver a great story with some incredible, and twisted, action scenes. Alot of the creature designes are incredibly well drawn and can be truly grotesque as well. The only major downside is the sheer level of its maturity. Because it has alot of nudity and there are multiple * scenes (alot of them involving rape) its not something you can watch with other people around, meaning it can become difficult to find the time to watch it. 9/10 X: Again a dated movie. However, while the animation for X is dated and somewhat unusual, it too delivers a good show. X is, essentially, non stop action. There is almost always a fight scene of some sorts happening, and the story won't leave you bored either. The basic jist of X is the following: Tokyo city, 1999, the scene of the greatest battle Earth has ever known, yet mankind is unaware. Here, the dragons fight, the 7 Dragons of Heaven, who seek to protect the world as it is and to protect mankind, and the 7 Dragons of Earth, who seek to cleanse the world and have it start anew. Intertwined in all of this is a young man named Kamui, who has just returned to Tokyo after 6 years. Kamui's destiny is to fight, to decide the outcome of the final battle, so he is given a choice. He is either to become the 7th Dragon of Heaven and fight to protect humanity, or the 7th Dragon of Earth and fight to cleanse the world. He, however, only wishes to protect his best friend Fuuma, and Fuuma's younger sister. But fate plays dirty, and Kamui is forced to choose which of the two warring sides he will fight alongside while Fuuma, the Kamui who is not Kamui, is forced to take whatever side opposes him. Overall, X is a story we are all familiar with, but it is a great story nonetheless. The movie delivers some of the most entertaining and most stylish action sequences ever seen, and while the animation is dated it's still a feast for the eyes. The only real problem, and its biggest downfall is the terrible, overdramatized dubbing and the cliche's found in the plot. 9/10 Ninja Scroll: A classic, and a movie I'd reccomend for everyone who's a fan of ninja movies. Ninja Scroll is, again, a slightly darker story. The main character is a wanderer named Jubei, who ends up getting involved with the destruction of a small ninja group who seeks to overthrow the Tokugawa Shogunate. At the same time, Jubei is forced to face his past in the form of an opponent whom he has already killed, an opponent returned from the dead to overthow Tokugawa. The animation for Ninja Scroll isn't the greatest, but it is still very well done. There is never a point in the movie at which ones eyes don't drink in whatever is happening. The dubbing is also better than average as well, but the biggest feature is the action scenes. The action takes all forms here, from fight scenes to massacres and the movie isn't shy when it comes to blood or nudity either (it's a more mature movie too). There are few downsides, if any, and I highly reccomend this movie to everyone who's an action/thriller fan, even if they don't care much for ninja movies. 9.5/10 |

I can not tell, is it just me or do we all look just like Adolph fucking Hitler with this swoopy emo-boy dreamy haircut dangling in our faces, making us all indescribably indistinguishable from each other; or maybe I'm just another megalomaniac? | |

Fate Stay Night: The plot is that there is a war between 7 magicians, which is held every year. Each magician gets a "servant" that has super powers and aids in winning the war. For winning the war, the victor gains the ability to make ONE wish. There are good action scenes, interesting characters, etc. The love story SUCKS; i just found it... weird. The ending kind of leaves you wanting more, but that's how i feel about most animes that actually end. It starts out kind of slow, but if you keep watching, you'll be rewarded. There are times when the dialog gets to FMA-esque complexity, but, overall, its easy to understand. There is one episode that some people may feel uncomfortable with seeing (there's no nudity, butt.... i dunno u can interpret it kind of ickishly). Most of it is good, but the love story kind of ruined some of it for me. 8.5/10 Ranma 1/2: The story is that a guy falls into a cursed hot spring. Thus, whenever he is doused with cold water, he becomes a girl. The victim of this is Ranma, the main character. To reverse the effect, hot water needs to be poured on him. There are pretty interesting fight scenes, but the main part is the hilarity of the series. It's perverted and... inappropriate in some parts, but i think its pretty great. 9/10 |

Samurai Champloo 9/10. The use of hip hop made it more enjoyable, and the characters were great. Neon Genesis Evangelion 9/10. A great anime, with good plots and animation, but sometimes hard to understand ur first time. FLCL 10/10. No contest. GitS (including movies, manga and 2nd series) 10/10. My favourite anime of all time. Great storyline and characters, as well as an interesting theme to a near futuristic world. |

Is solid Snake really Mugen? O_o Anyways, since I just finished watching it: Full Metal Alchemist: Great anime all around, with good animation and a really deep story. The story can be really confusing if you haven't watched all the previous episodes, though. Still, a great anime in all aspects. 9/10 And because I feel like it: Naruto: Pretty decent anime, but it's ruined by fillers, and tons of em. Even in non-filler episodes it feels like each scene is being dragged out as long as possible. If it weren't for these problems, Naruto would be at least a point or 2 higher, because it actually has fairly good fight scenes and characters. 6/10 |

Another review from me. The Place Promised In Our Early Days Altough this Anime was released in 2004 I just discovered it recently. It's an OAV from the popular anime director Makoto Shinkai who's famous for making his projects completely alone, this project took him 2 years to finish. The story takes place in an alternate timeline in which Japan was split in two after the Second World War. While the Southern Alliance works hand-in-hand with the United States, the Northern Union is far more enigmatic. The Union constructs a gigantic tower that stretches so far into the heavens that it can be seen for miles. Its purpose, however, remains a mystery. Amidst this tense border conflict, two young boys, Hiroki Fujisawa and Takuya Shirakawa decide to build a plane so they breeze past the tower. While at school, the two make friends with Sayuri Sawatari, a cute girl whose youthful exuberance only serves to inspire the boys even more to complete their project. As the three youngsters bond, the boys promise to bring Sayuri along with them whenever the plane is ready for takeoff. But things take a sharp turn when Sayuri suddenly disappears. Hiroki finds himself haunted by nightmares that show Sayuri trapped in a dream world, frightened and alone. Believing he is the only one who can help her, Hiroki returns to the workshop he and Takuya shared as teenagers. Hiroki believes Sayuri's fate is somehow tied to the mysterious tower and succeeds in making contact with her in the dream world. When Sayuri's true whereabouts are made clear, Hiroki does everything in his power to honor the promise he made to her years ago. However, there's one person standing in Hiroki's way: his former best friend, Takuya. Will the promise be fulfilled or has the friendship wholly disintegrated? The Art is mind blowing, the sound couldn't be any better and the plot ist deep and philosophic, filled with a bit of romance. Definitely one of the best Anime's I've ever seen. |

Hmmm, well might as well post my ratings, even if I ain't good at it -.-. Elfen Lied The king of Emo anime. It's extremly depresing and very well done. It's a rather mature anime and not for kids. TOTALY not for kids. There is nudity and alot of blood. It's more depressing then Eva and well... good. Really good. If you watch this be sure to read the manga after as it has more stuff in it. It has a few flaws however. The humor is preaty Echii... and though I don't mind that at ALL it can be a little annoying. It seems a little over-used but this is still a great anime. 8/10 FLCL One word perfectly fits this anime. Really whacked. Yes I know your going to say that's two words but your going to have get used to things seeming confusing because this anime whacked. It's beautiful, plane and simple. Not for everyone but still a must see if your into weird * >.>. Also this is one of my fav animes so I may be a little biased. 8/10 ------- I am thinking of rating Big-O next, but I don't think I can put it's perfection into words >.>. |

What's shítty about prefering the 30 frames per second, hand animated goodness of "The Place Promised In Our Early Days" over the "Hey let's add a 30 seconds freeze image drawn by some korean gimp without talent to cause a dramatic scene" Evangelion? Duhh grow the * up some and watch the animes before you rant about them. |
