8:18:31 PM doctap266: Hello, Wes, welcome to the show 8:18:49 PM westonmuniakcgs: Thanks for having me on, Dan. 8:20:04 PM doctap266: Now, Wes, there have been murmurs of you challenging Sen. Hopkins in his upcoming Re-election battle 8:20:13 PM doctap266: care to let us in on any secrets? 8:23:43 PM westonmuniakcgs: Well, you certainly know how to get straight to the point. *laughs* It's no secret that I recently left my town of residence, Cheyenne, Wyoming, to take up residence in the 9th Congressional district of New York. Now, I have some friends and family who live in the 9th district, but that's not the reason I left. I came to New York because the people of New York have not had the quality representation in Congress that they deserve. Members like Senator Hopkins have been AWOL from Washington, they haven't really been doing anything for New York. I want to get things done for my district-- get things done for New York. And if that means running for Senate, then I will run for Senate. However, I will do-- I will only do-- what is in the best interests of the people of the state of New York. They are the people whom I will represent. 8:24:47 PM doctap266: Wes, as you are aware, Sen. Hopkins was just on this show, and he cited for different Bills that were written by him last session. 8:25:04 PM doctap266: Is this enough legislation to discredit allegations of being absent on the job? 8:27:32 PM westonmuniakcgs: Absolutely not, Daniel. It takes an aide or two, paid a fairly decent salary, to write a bill. But a Senator must be active and involved in the lives of the people of the state-- and Senator Hopkins has been out of the public eye too much to have that impact on the people of New York. The people of New York require compassionate, active service in the Senate. That's something that, sadly, Senator Hopkins has not been able to give them. 8:28:52 PM doctap266: Fair point, Wes. Now New York is a state that hasn't voted for Republicans very much in recent times, do you think you represent mainstream New York values 8:31:47 PM westonmuniakcgs: Absolutely, Dan. I believe in people's rights-- I believe that every child deserves health care. I believe that every person has a right to believe what that person wants to believe-- without being told off by someone else. I believe that people kill people-- but guns make it easier. I believe that life is precious-- and that no human life should be forcibly taken. Daniel, I think that's about as mainstream, yet still strong in conviction, as one can get. 8:33:32 PM doctap266: You sound like a man of true belief, Wes. 8:35:22 PM westonmuniakcgs: That I am, Daniel. I am not a man who will sit back and just obey a party agenda and spit out regurgitated nonsense just because it sounds pretty-- I am a man whose beliefs strongly affect my decisions on a political level. That is why the people of New York, in my mind, could use me. I'm not going to stand back outside the crowd, I'm going to fight for what the people of New York want me to fight. That is, of course, assuming I do run for Senate *laughs*. 8:35:52 PM doctap266: I think we all know the answer to that one Wes. 8:35:59 PM doctap266: Good luck in your future career. 8:36:06 PM doctap266: and thanks for appearing on the show. 8:36:15 PM westonmuniakcgs: Thanks for having me. It's been a pleasure. 8:36:25 PM doctap266: Come back any time, Wes. 8:36:30 PM doctap266: END |
