Name: Thomas "Tommy" Patrick Ballenger Age: 37 Gender: Male Martial Status: Male partner named Alan Oakley for 11 years Children: Two: Beverly, 6, and Leonard, 2 Education: Masters Degree in both Political Science and communications from Texas State University. Strengths: Young/Hip, Charismatic Political Experience: Campaign Strategist, Boxer for U.S. Senate (1990-1992) Chief Advisor to U.S. Senate Barbara Boxer (1993-1999) Chief of Staff to the Governor of California (1999-2003) Congressman from California's 31st District (2003-) Character's History: Tommy was born on April 27th 1969 in Austin, Texas. Tommy came out as gay at the age of 15, and created a gay rights group in Austin as a teenager. He later gained degrees in political science and communications from Texas State University, and after that moved to Los Angeles, California. He became a gay activist, and created his own organisation called Out Loud. He official occuptation was an activist until 1990, when he was selected as a campaign strategist on the senatorial campaign of Barbara Boxer. When she took office, Ballenger was selected to be her Chief Advisor. Ballenger gained a good reputation in Washington and among California politicians, and in 1999 the new Governor of California, Gray Davis, selected Ballenger to serve as his Chief of Staff. In 2003, Ballenger used his experience as an asset in a run for Congress. He suprisingly won the primaries by a slim margin against several party leaders, and once again achieved a suprising and slim victory in the general election. Ballenger continues to serve in Congress. He has a condo in Los Angeles, and an apartment in Georgetown in Washington D.C. He has been with his partner Alan Oakley, a successful journalist, and together they have adopted 2 children. |
